Gone and done it ( and then re-did it )

Well I've finally bitten the bullet. Having stuck with Q6600 and then my Q9550 I decided it was time to jump and have ordered the following

Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM **BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL DEAL**

Asus P9X79 PRO Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard

G.Skill RipJawsZ 32GB (8x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (F3-14900CL9Q2-32GBZL)

I do quite a bit of video work in Premier Pro and photo work in photoshop hence the 32GB of RAM

Not to bothered about mega overclocking. if I get 4.5+ I'll be happy.

Stroll on Monday.

OH Bol*0X

CPU: Intel® Socket 2011 for 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor Extreme Edition, Supports Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0

I misread the CPU descriptor.

I thought that this would include the 2700K. I guess from your comment it will not.

Guess it's an email to OCUK cutomer support apologising for being a spanner.

Suggestions for a mobo / ram combination would be most appreciated. Guessing I'm looking for 16gb rather than 32gb now

OK then - situation resolved.

As I'm planning running this kit for a while I decided to drop the 2700K and went for a 3930K. Quick Google search showed a few large etailers with them in stock so I've got one coming on Tuesday.

It's an extra £220 over the 2700K if you shop around and I know if I'd stuck with the 2700K and cut the RAM to 16GB I'd be wishing before too long I'd gone for the big daddy set-up.

So all's good, and thanks to the members for pointing out the error of my ways. It would have been a rather interesting experience trying to fit the 2700K into the wrong board.

Cant wait for my 32GB 6 core . Watch out Photoshop, Lightroom and Premier pro.

The toys have arrived :D

Box full of RAM, Motherboard and the 3930K.

Unfortunately OCUK screwed up on the delivery of the water cooling kit so the build will need to wait for a few days :(

Cant wait to play and see what the differences to the 9550 are.

I've run some Premier Pro, Lightroom and Winrar real life examples and will re run with the 3930K when built, both at stock and overclocked.

I'm afraid I don't have any 4K Red files to play with.

One of the comparisons I will be doing is converting a 15 minute 1080 .TS file into a WMV file. The current rig took 1 hour 12 mins.

Having the GTX570 helps with PPro and the CUDA work like a charm to accelerate effects

Well it was time to break open the boxes and build the beast

There not a lot of room in here - Rad will need to go outside

Now with some of the gubbins in and trying to figure out the plumbing and cabling

Overall it was a bit of a pig to sort out due to

a - lack of space in the case

b - very poor documentation in the bundled water cooling kit. It also said it was socket 2011 compatible but it did not have the correct fitting. I had to bodge a solution out of the bits in the kit.

It's up and running now and the initial comparisons are good. I'll put some more info up after I've had to time to check it out properly.

I have got the tubing to the waterblock the wrong way round as the input should be at the lower side to avoid any air pockets. Seems to be doing ok still though and I can't be bothered draining the system just yet to swap them round.
