Anyone else downgraded back to Tiger from Leopard? I've given it a chance but at the moment it just annoys me too much to stay with it. For the first time since I've been using OS X it feels like I am having to fight it to do what I want rather than it just working with me. The worst thing I can say about it is that it reminds me slightly of using Windows :(

The only things I will miss are Spotlight v2 and Quicklook.

I'm looking to upgrade to Leopard soon. I'd didnt want to use 10.5.0 but now the update is out I'm going to try it out.

Could you elaborate more on the reasons why you disliked it so much?

I would not say dislike so much as annoyed, in no particular order -

Stacks - good idea in principle but poorly implemented, the problem is really compounded by the removal of hierarchical folders in the dock.

The translucent menu bar, it not only looks bad but the fact that it is dim gives the impression that it is somehow 'inactive', when the app it is for is active.

Setting Finder views has changed, views now have to be set individually for each folder otherwise the last view you set follows you around like a bad smell. It is possible to get used to this and set views as you go but when using the back/forward buttons the view you set is ignored and the last one used comes back, or in some cases a completely arbitrary one.

Inactive windows now turn nearly white, get a few of them together and they just merge, making it difficult to tell them apart.

Folder actions keep getting disabled arbitrarily, I set them and a little while later they are gone for no reason.

I have the dock on the side so the 3d dock is not an issue for me but even on the side the dock now has a dark background with a white border, take this and the translucent menu bar plus the new window style and there are three different elements on screen that are all jarring to look at.

These are just my gripes BTW, lots of people seem quite happy with Leopard and under the hood it is still as stable as ever, as I mentioned some of the new features are actually quite good like quicklook and the rewritten spotlight.

Also, I know stuff like the menu bar can be changed now but I found myself changing it so much to work like Tiger I thought I might as well go back

from what i've read there are a vast amout of behind the scenes improvements made in leopard so its a shame you'd flick back to tiger for the sake of a a few superficial differences... but as theheyes said, if tiger suits you more then thats that. maybe if you do go back have another go with leapard in about a year when all the bugs are ironed out etc?

Upgrade = Problems for any OS

Thats why I went down fresh install route and it runs fine just like Tiger did.

He never said he did an OS upgrade.

I have been thinking a similar thing about going back to Tiger. I owned a Mac Mini since February running Tiger and it was brilliant, my first Mac, and what an improvement over Windows.

Went out and blew nearly £1200 on a 24" iMac running Leopard and it feels like going back to Windows, numerous problems:

I'm sure it's not the iMac that's the problem, just the OS.

I really like the new window and toolbar styles though, brushed metal in Tiger was rubbish.
