but I'm having some problems. Rebuilt my PC formatted c and clean install etc. Installed anti virus etc then started doing windows updates and when installing one it crashed and ever since my PC has been blue screening a lot or locking up. Had to do system restore after some windows updates as it gets stuck in a booting loop.

Any ideas on how to fix it or I'm i looking at another night of installing windows 7.

Thanks.

I noticed on my new Build I had options in my Bios for windows 8 features for secure boot etc.. Might be worth checking over your bios for winodws 8 features and switch them off. failing that I Would do a fresh install and remove all the partitions on your hard drive as windows splits you drive up.

Looks like you're going to have to do a reinstall. Checking for Windows 8 features in BIOS is a good start, but I doubt it's the cause.

Maybe an update got corrupted on download or something, not sure what else could have caused the issue.

Tried the bios as well, reset the to defaults, removed my overclock etc to no avail.

Will be a fresh install tonight. Sorting out bootable usb at work now lol. Got a 2hour window to get it up and running with fm 2014 before my mate comes around for a fifa fm session lol

Yeah corrupted update was what i was guessing, and cba to go through the 67 it had just installed to find out what one is corrupted.

You could check Event Viewer and see what it is doing when it BSODs?

Still having problems with the BSODs i'm wondering if it could be my r9 290 i got as i went back to 7 when i got it. I've managed to get all the windows updates etc are on but occasionally when i start up the computer it will bsod just as it starts loading windows or maybe after 20 min. I used the windows 7 64bit iso from the windows website. It usually works after running the windows repair tool.

Wow thats a really handy program. There are a few things that come as the driver that casued the problem atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernal Mode Driver) x4, ntoskrnl.exe (nt kernel & system) x5 and rdyboost.sys (readyboost driver) x3

Do you have an Intel CPU? Install/Update the Intel chipset drivers, disable ready boost and check your ATI drivers are the latest. Maybe try reinstalling them.

Other than that, you may be looking at faulty hardware (most likely the graphics card, but could be the RAM as well).

It's an AMD rig. After rebuild it has been a lot better. But the catalyst control centre has crashed a few times so going to uninstall the ccc and see if that fixes the issue i will rma the card. I've done memory tests on the ram and it's been fine for the last few years and was fine until i put in the r9 290

Well last night ran memtest86 and no errors so the only thing i can guess is that the gpu is faulty as that's the only thing new to the rig.

They do suffer from boot up black screens and also black screens when playing games. It is possible a driver revision will stop it from occurring however people are not waiting in hope and have RMA'd a few cards.

I did log an RMA with OCUK but I'm going to cancel it now as I've seemed to get it working. I wiped the old drivers off completely using a gpu driver uninstaller then went to the msi site and downloaded the latest driver that's not beta. Once it has installed it i then removed catalyst control center from boot-up and didn't install afterburner and I've had no issues with crashing for the last few days. Played plenty of youtube and FM 2014 just need to check out Rome 2 on it tonight and fingers crossed it will be okay. Just hope the driver/software issue is fixed for when i water cool it as I'll be looking to overclock it a bit

I definitely think there is some truth in that bullet. I removed AB and it seemed to improve stability before I found a separate issue that could be causing the black screens. Get some more tests done and report back hopefully with positive news! :)

Well Rome 2 ran fine last night but i then went on to play fm2014 and watch some youtube videos and the screen went black with only the cursor and kept flicking between that and completely black screen and occasionally some of the start bar. Will try having just AB running the the background and see what the gpu is doing.

I have been running Windows 8 just fine with the exception of a smnall number of apps being douchy to me. I then went 8.1 only a few days ago.

Well, for a good chunk of today, I have spent trying to fix 8.1 and trying to get it to access my network drives, but failing, and I cant find my 8.0 Installation DVD now, so bugger it, I have gone back to Win7 and after some messing about, I thought sod it... Im staying on 7.

You could have just downloaded a Windows 8 ISO and used it with your serial key.
