I am after good 5.1 sound for games and stereo for music and have Logitech Z5500 speakers right now - I love these but I am now competing with the kids computer behind me with my old 5.1 setup :D in the lounge this don't really work anymore :p

So, I am gonna get rid of the Logitech Speakers and I want a good set of 5.1 headphones. I also have Medusa 5.1 set and whilst they are OK and good value for the 40 quid I paid a few years back I want better definition/bass for music and games.

I am also gonna get a new soundcard seeing as my XiFi is a waste of space on my shelf (it don't work on my mobo with Vista 64) - I am running my 6 year old audigy instead!

So - which card / headphone combo should I be looking at assuming I want to break more or less even after flogging the speakers & headphones I have now?

The HD555's are very good, I have some running off a X-fi Gamer card, and sound quality is great :D ( for a non-audiophile)

Yea sennheiser hd555's they are the best in the world there's no competition to those what so ever.
Everyone says how wonderful they are compared to typical generic headphones.

Like the murphy's I'm not bitter just a little sarcasm.
I'd go with an Asus Xonar sound card.

go for the Goldrings :P

I use X-Fi Xtreme Music, Sennheiser HD555 + desk mic at home, im perfectly happy with the setup.

try the xfi in a different pci slot

mine would straight out NOT work in the 3rd slot (maybe it doesn't like sharing IRQ's), works perfectly in slot1
