Have a friend wanting to sell me his 2006 Macbook. It's the 2.0ghz Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), 1GB, 100GB HDD version with a superdrive. He is asking £300. Seemed pretty good to me. It's either this or a MSI Wind for about the same price.

I'm getting the wind today, then kalywaying it all the way! can't wait! :D:D:D. Buyt yeah, thats £20 more than the wind, I would get it if I had the opportunity. I was hoping apple would release new macbooks 2 days ago but it never happened, so getting this wind!

Fail!

I can't face buying a £600 mac when I know that they are 2+ years old in design and new ones are just round the corner! I've waited for the past 5-6 months holding off buying a new portable computer, waiting for 9th of september but it never happened....

Actually he only wants £260 for it now. Going to collect it tonight. I have never used a mac before so expect lots of questions from me later :). Thanks for the help!

appologies i thought you were the op.

yes buying a new macbook now would be silly but if like the op you were offered one for sub £300 i'd snap their hand off.

I retract my FAIL! and ad it to myself for not checking who you are!

If you waited for the new model in Apples line up you'd never buy one. Get the MacBook if you can afford it. So much better than the Wind.

It is a bit like buying Smart Price beans vs Tesco Finest.

Well, I've got my wind and just installing OS X, can't bloody wait! I'm only using it for light work / taking it to lectures, I have my main PC for the rest! :)

Give me £300 more so I could afford a mac which is outdated and needs an upgrade :). I'm working my ass off already and am at uni. What do you expect? Smart price always!

A University student without a MacBook, how uncool! :p Hope OS X on the Wind goes OK, maybe it will encourage you to get a proper Mac.

What is outdated with the MacBook anyway?

Well, we got our first mac when I was 6 years ols, the Mac Performa, LOVED IT! So, haven't used a mac OS for 10 years, then on Sunday the priest at my church asked me if I wanted his iMac G3 he didn't need anymore, he's a cool priest because he's got one of the newest, high specced powerbooks! So I took on installing OS X on it and I was amazed . The only problem is that it dragged so much on the 333mhz processor.

I was just so waiting for new macs to be released, but meh. This Wind I am using to take on the train, taking it to campus etc, I feel safer with it rather than an expensive mac. I will then eventually buy a mac to replace my main desktiop puter because I am in love with OS X.
