My dad needs some more DDR2 RAM for his PC, his spec is as follows:

Motherboard:
Asus P5KPL-AM

CPU:
Intel Pentium Dual Core E6600 3.06GHz

Current RAM:
2GB Geil PC6400 800MHz DDR2

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

He currently has 2gb (2x1gb, only has 2 slots) and is usually using around 90% of it. Used as just a home pc really, web browsing, emails, Microsoft Office and not really much else. He doesn't want to have to upgrade it again. Looking for 2x2gb sticks.

Any ideas?

What do you mean by 'better' ram? Faster memory will make no difference in day to day use. If it's more memory you want then your best bet is buying another 2GB to match what you already have. DDR2 is getting expensive now so looking second hand might be a good bet.

Sorry, I meant to say more... But he only has 2 slots, and needs to replace what is already there. He has 2x1gb, needs 2x2gb

Well your options are the electronic coastal inlet or buy new for £40+ it seems.

Have you tried using readyboost and a usb stick and seeing if that alleviates any problems?

Fair enough :)

Cheapest 4GB DDR2 you can find then. There can be compatability issues with older motherboards so it might be worth checking the manufacturers website for compatible sticks (if the board is still listed). There are also websites I can't mention here which will tell you what you need.

Depends how cheap you can find it (don't link to any competitors :p)

Cheapest 4GB kit on OcUK is nearly £50 which seems a lot for an extra 2GB. On an elderly general purpose desktop you want to spend as little as possible. Fast RAM will make absolutely no difference so look purely on price.

OK, thanks!

Best bet is second hand, not worth paying the price for brand new DDR2. Perhaps keep an eye for Grade B stuff, no idea if DDR2 is actually still manufactured.
