Good air cooler for Core i5 6500 1151 socket?

Noctua are my personal favourites, really well constructed, nice mounting mechanisms and considering the price of their fans when sold separately they're usually fairly good value as well. :p

Cheers guys checking those out, quite like this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/noctua-nh-l9x65-low-profile-performance-cpu-cooler-hs-032-nc.html.

Would it fit ASUS H170M-PLUS ok?

It's very expensive for what performance it offers, there are a dozen or more coolers way cheaper than that which offer much better performance.

Quietest I've had was a Scythe Kotetsu, it kept my 4690k cool at 4.5ghz and with a custom fan profile which was totally passive up until around 50c it was super quiet, much much quieter than my current Dark Rock Pro 3.

I didn't use the stock Scythe fan though so I can't comment on the noise performance of that, although Scythe fans are usually very good.

Certain Scythe coolers can damage Skylake CPUs on account of them being thinner than Haswell. Please check vigorously before you buy a cooler !

Noctua have just announced they are giving away a new mounting system for Skylake so again, you may want to check before you buy a Noctua as it may involve waiting for the correct bracket to arrive.

Thanks for the help guys, glad I didn't get around to picking one yet. Was having a clear out today and I stumbled upon this old thing in storage.

Wasn't sure if it would even fit the socket or the case, but I managed to get it in :-D with a lil room to spare as well.

Temps have dropped and much prefer the look of this over the stock cooler (Yuk). GPU temps seem to have dropped as well lol, especially under load. Max CPU load temp 50C under Intel extreme burn test.

Chuffed with this saved me ordering anything else. Cheers guys.
