Good and free photo editor?

Hi all,

What would you recommend as a good and free photo editor? I'm only after basics (crop, red eye, straightener, file size reduction for emailing etc) and am currently using a mixture of Picassa and XnView.

Suggestions for an all-in-one?

What about Gimp?

I use CS2 myself but I did try Gimp for a few weeks and it seemed ok.

Second vote for GIMP. I used to use GIMPshop - GIMP hacked to look like PS.

It's very good, but different enough from photoshop to just be annoying when you're using both.

Yeah as far as free goes - GIMP is about as good as they get.

Picasa 3, I do a lot of my basic editing in it despite having PS CS2 and Nikon Capture NX, it's just such a quick way of straightening, cropping and making minor adjustments.
It's a whole lot better than Picasa 2.

I can't say I have used GIMP - but I have had success with Pixmantec Rawshooter, which I do all my processing on, following by Irfanview, which I use to batch resize photos.

Gimp, although gimp will be even better when it gets 16bit colour support.
