Good areas of Birmingham?

My parents are thinking of relocating from Nottingham to Birmingham, into a smaller house, and renting the current house to a family.

Could someone who knows the area give me a list of the areas which they should consider... Their budget is around the £300k mark. They want a new house.

So far the obvious has been Edgbaston, but you dont really get that much for your money, and there is a lack of new houses. They have been advised to look at Sutton Coldfield, but is this a good area?

Haha, thanks for the info guys, I honestly cannot figure out why they are attracted to birmingham. Im trying to convince them to move to the southeast instead. Somewhere like guildford, surrey would be much cheaper than london, and it would be a hell of a lot nicer than brum!
