600D output in raw.. so in time I think she'll probably play around with something to bring out some creative changes to images (ie part colour and part b/w etc) along with the usual processing. She has a MacBook Air.

I know Apple do Aperture.. any others?

In astro-photography I have PixInsight which is specialised for AP - think PSP but more computational processing (www.pixinsight.com) and able to cope with 6GB images. However this will be too much for her - something simpler would be good.

I have a macbook air and use aperture. Does everything I want and is fully integrated into the mac OS, making it extremely easy to use. She can even import her iphoto library into aperture and vice versa.

Aperture for the integration with the OS and its extra functionality over iPhoto. LR4 is supposed to be really good though, but a bit pricier than Aperture.

I personally use Aperture.

I have been using Bridge and Photoshop for ages to catalogue my photos and do my basic raw conversions and cropping and stuff. Then I bought a new camera and the RAW files couldn't be read in that version of Bridge/Photoshop so I tried Lightroom 4.3 for the first time. I bought a copy from Staples for £80 a few days later and will be using it almost exclusively from now on for the kind of stuff I've been using Bridge/Photoshop for in the past. Both still have a use, just not for most of what I want to do.

I wish I'd found it earlier.

Import/catalogue, rate/flag, keyword, develop non destructively, copy develop changes to multiple photos easily, easily export groups of images in specific sizes, create photobooks (not used it much yet), create web galleries (very easy but not explored much, this took 30 seconds to make with some images I was toying with), geotag with Google Maps, print batches with the same settings etc etc.

I've been watching loads of videos about it on youtube for the past week. Also the videos on Adobe TV are good but the streaming seems really slow compared to youtube.
