The Panasonic SD90 or SD900 would be the ones to go for... I bought a SD90 for my trip to Portugal a few weeks ago, still in the middle of editing the footage.
That looks rubbish. The best you're going to get around that price range is probably a Flip Ultra or Mino HD. They're good for the price, but don't expect miracles.
And that's why you didn't have any luck in the other section.
I'm not the expert on this but what I do know is that you could have a 100 megapixel camera but if the lens is crap it will still come out crap.
I've always trusted Karl Zeiss lens that come with Sony products and my HD camcorder is a HDR-CX115.
