My parents can only get 0.5-1mb depending on which website you plug the Phone number into. However years ago, when I lived there I managed to get 1mb, so i assume they never cut speed?

They don't do anything heavy. Mainly browsing, Iplayer, internet radio. So probably be easier with a no cap service?

But who's very reliable and relatively cheap. Pref £10 or less.

iv been on virgin now for a couple of years, and they offered great service, no problems what soever, and you can pick up dectn phone and tv rates,

but it does all depend on where you live, in a vilalge or small town, ISP tend to be limited.

Hope this helps

£10 - o2 if you have a contract with them..
If not just go for a cheapo talk talk / orange internet
If you want something which will be really good have a look at Bethere..
I dont think your going to find virgin for less than 10 pounds and when you compare prices for even 8meg on virgin to something like o2 or Bethere they are much higher.
Anyway hope ive helped

Use this website and see if there is a LLU operator on your exchange..

If you are fortunate enough (:D) to have talktalk you can have it (broadband) for free! If they are the only LLU operator you can be quids in. I moved from Pipex more than 18 months ago and now pay £4 above their basic free package and sync at 20meg with a downloads of around 17mb. Oh yes! To get free broadband you need to have their phone package and pay the line rental to them.

i would recommend plus net. My mum has them at her house and they have only stopped working once in the 3 years we have been with them. I have never experienced throttling with them though they may do on different packages
