hi guys building a system and im using the phenom ii x4 955 BE whats the best cooler to use with this? i like the look of the coolermaster v series but my friend says they could be better performance wise what would you guys suggest a few people i know have corsair a50 or a70 would these be good? ideally i dont want to spend more than £50.

cheers

ricky :D

Why are people still recommending the H50? The new Antec Kuhler 620 is much better and even cheaper!

Reading the two user reviews here it appears theres an issue with the mounting lugs being rather fragile and breaking/ cracking and its only a coupla quid cheaper than the corsair that has none of these probs.

I've got a V6gt. Looks great, and great cooling performance with a heavily overclocked i5. It is pretty loud though :D

yeh really like the look of that but sound is a big issue for me as i game late into the night and my house is very crowded with lots of people sleeping so need something less noisy :S

if its quietness your after, then the H50 would be great. all the reviews ive seen say its got similar cooling capabilities to the ~£40 coolers, but is WAY quieter.

its also great if your struggling for space in your case. im going to be getting one once corsair confirm a tiny thing for me

The Coolermaster coolers from the reviews I've read are more looks over ability, the Thermaltake Frio while a very good cooler is also known for being VERY loud on highest fan speed (2500rpm) and still not perfect on low (1200rpm) although how intrusive the noise is would be down to the case and each individuals hearing. They do have manual speed adjusters on the fans though.

If you have a look on the known auction site or members market you may find a good deal on a Noctua NH-D14, or a Prolimatech Megahalems, etc.

In terms of the H50/H70 style coolers I'm not sure they're as good as you may think, and I'm guessing a lot of people buy them purely because of what they are rather than their outright cooling ability.

I've got a pair of Palit GTX 460's drowning my V6 out :D quietness is not my rig's strongest point.

ETA: The cooling ability of the V6 is actually very good. Core temperatures on prime never top 70C on a 4GHz i5 750.

To be honest a Phenom II doesn't need mega cooling, so I would choose something you like looking at in your case from the following..

Noctua NH-D14
Thermalright Silver Arrow
Prolimatech Megahalems
Coolermaster V8 and V6
Thermaltake Frio (and new OCK version)
Coolink Corator
Akasa Venom

There's probably loads more similar air coolers too, but if you want a small water based cooler...

Corsair H70 or the new Antec Kuhler H20 620

I don't see there being a huge difference in temperature from all the above where it would affect your overclock, all should be able to manage a Phenom II @ 3.8Ghz+ 1.45v with under 50 celcius temperatures.
