Good cpu cooler for q8300

If thats with stress testing, all cores 90% plus for a prolonged period then you temps are ok I would say.

You could get a better cooler, but it would be more of a noise reduction if thats what you are after. Idealy you want to be in the 60's at full stress, but 70's is fine for an artificial stress.

Either a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 or Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus would be fine.

No need to go for more expensive coolers as Q8300 won't clock as high as Q6600, and it is 45nm instead of 65nm as well.

Got a Thermalright Ultra 120 on my E8400 at 4.11GHz - keeps my temps around the same as yours under a prime stress

If I drop my clock down to 3.6 or thereabouts I'm down under 60 with a prime stress

I'm looking to upgrade my cooler soon, got this one in mind :)

How high do you want it to clock? I can't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to get the same 4.1 out of his 8300 that I'm getting out of my 8400... depending on revision of course.

Besides, a better cooler allows slightly higher voltages so you can MAKE it clock better before cooking it :)

When you upgrade your CPU, you've already got a great cooler perhaps?
From what I recall, people would recommend going from from a dual-core to a quad-core on the 775, but they don't recommend going from a Q8x00 CPU to another Quad on 775 as the little boost in performance is not worth the hassle and extra money. The next upgrade he'd be doing would most likely be the platform upgrade, rather than throwing another CPU in to the old 775 socket, and there's no guarantee that the current range of CPU will be compatable with the next gen CPU socket.

Nothing to do with 775

The Noctua is/will be compatable so there's no need to fret.

The Freezer 7 is really cheap, and works very well. Brought temperatures down a long way on my Q8400. Really quiet too.
