Basicly as title says.

I've upgraded my p4 to a pentium D 925 and OC-ed it to 4 ghz like my old cpu was, and wanted to ask how there performance is of it.
Got the cpu for 40 quid btw.

3dmark06 (just look at cpu score ignore my poor 6800gs 3dmark score :D )

pcmark04:

So basicly are these good scores, also to what core 2 duo or x2 amd does this compare, i've only checked 06 cpu score and my cpu score seems same as that of an E6400 core 2 duo @ stock, however unsure if this is correct, i mean aren't core 2 duo's supposed to be faster?

P4D @ 4Ghz is more or less the same as a 2Ghz Core2 duo, which would tally up with your observation of the E6400 which is 2.13Ghz.

You dont think Core 2 Duo's fast enough? Its able to keep up with P4D's running 100% higher clockrate, while using 1/3 of the energy? And just as you can overclock the P4D, the Core 2 Duo's even easier. **

Thing is it does depend on your application, in some games a 1.83Ghz Core2 is faster than your 4Ghz P4, but there are other applications where the P4D would beat it.

On average though, take a Core 2 Duo, and double its' clockrate, and thats what clock you would need on a P4D to equal it. I think thats pretty fast.

My chip does 3.1Ghz or so on air, at 1.2V!, the P4D would need to be around 6Ghz to keep up.

** Core 2 Duo@ 2Ghz < 65W, while a P4D@4Ghz could easily be using 150W of power.

Don't really care about power usage, parents pay for that.
Core 2 duo costs 90 quid
my pentium 40
Core 2 duo is 35% ish faster, while 120% ish more expensive, besides I dont have a mainboard that supports it , wich would add extra costs, after selling my old cpu this only costed me 10 quid the upgrade, with a core 2 duo it'd be a lot more expensive, I'd reather put the money i saved towards a 8800GTS (points at my crappy gfx card in sig).

Oh and dont exgaggerate about power usage, i have a 65nm one , wich uses 97 watts @ stock, with a 30% oc i dont expect it to use more as 125 watts.
Where did u get the 1/3th power usage of a pent D from for core 2 duo's, core 2 duo: 65watts, pentium D 97 watts ?

I completly agree a core 2 duo is faster by a lot and clocks way easier, but i dont have the money for it not the mainboard for it nor the ram (crappy pc3200 ram), if my mainboard would be rev2.0 I wouldnt even consider P D but just get a 4300, but i couldn't be bothered spending more than 90 quid in total on an upgrade, for now, as i needed a new gfx more than a new cpu, just happenned to coem across a 40 quid cpu...
