P8P67 Pro
2500k
Noctua D14
2x2gb ocz platinum 1600mhz (running at 1333 - ****ty ocz)
1tb samsung F3

Current overclock:
4.5 ghz @ 1.26V stable
max temp 54deg prime95

Would this be considered a good overclock?
Is it ok for everyday use or should I push it further? Ive got a great cpu and a great cooler, might aswel make use of them - heatsink cost £65

I'm far from a SandyBridge expert. However I also had to venture into overclocking one last week and to reach 4.5Ghz I had to hit 1.33V for it be stable and it was 70°c under load.

I'd try and push it further... why not, plenty of head room there. Push for 4.8. See how it goes.

1.33v sounds like a lot. 4.8 should hopefully be achievable. Do you know what cooler that was with?

Of course I do :p. It was a Titan fenrir evo. Yes it was a lot, unfortunately it wasn't stable on anything less. No idea if it was a bad chip, motherboard or what.

Quite annoying. It is still within the safe range as recommended by Intel anyway. So no dangerous voltages. When you go above 1.38V I believe that's when the damage starts to occur.

***OVERCLOCKING GUIDELINES***

- Do not exceed 1.35-1.38v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

If you can bump to 1.28 / 1.3V, the temps won't be your bottleneck that's for sure. 54C under prime? Jeeeesus. You seem to have a good chip too. 4.4GHz would be what I'd consider a good everyday overclock, especially at that voltage. But if you can go higher, then why not.

I get 4.5Ghz 8 hours prime stable at 1.265 volts, so very similar to you. For reference, I'm 8 hours stable at 4.7Ghz at 1.325 volts, but not at 1.315, so am currently testing 1.320. Maybe look around that region for 4.7 on yours? I'm pushing for 4.8 but am waiting till my new TIM arrives so I can remount the cooler, as my temperatures are getting a bit uncomfortable at 4.7.

As for whether you should, do you do anything where you'd see a difference? Gaming won't be boosted particularly by an extra 100Mhz or so. I do 3D rendering work so more CPU speed translates into faster images for me, hence pushing the OC up. But for gaming you'd get better results fine tuning the overclock on your graphics card.

4.4ghz with those temps and that cooler is right on the money and what you would expect to see.
