hi everyone great forum finally joined after months of lurking.
have just upgraded my old athlon xp 3400 after 6 years so i can play more modern games at last. picked up a q6680 and xfx 680i mb. was wondering if my pallit 9800 gts+ is up to the task of playing new games and would sli be worth considering if i can find another one?
also can i overclock the chip card? something i'd not heard of until looking on here.
have a zalman cooler windows 7 o/s and bfg 800w psu.

I wouldn't bother SLIing them - they're old cards now so their sclaing won't be brilliant and the power draw will be monstrous.

What resolution do you game at, and what kind of games do you play?

Hi

What res are you playing at? A 9800gts will be ok with anything under 1680x1050, provided you're happy with lower detail settings ingame.

Have you thought about replacing your 9800 with something a GTX 460 or 560? You'll go a lot longer before you need to upgrade again.

You can overclock your card and your cpu.

You can play all games with that card but new ones will struggle with medium settings so its going to have to be on low.

I had two of them cards and the extra card didn't make a great deal off difference.

You can pick them up used for about 40 quid. But with that money you could sell the one you have and add the cash and get a ati 5770 or a used gtx 460 which would thrash two of your cards plus it will be direct x 11 which nearly all new games use

thanks for the quick replies everyone. my resolution is 1440 x 900. have been limited to older games until now. currently working my way through titan quest im. i like shooters and want to play crysis which ran terrible on my old athlon tried assas
sins creed aswell but it just crashed my system.
looks like my next purchase will be a newer gpu then.
