Good fan case?

You don't really need tonnes of fans... just a couple well placed will do! ;)

Many will suggest the Akasa Eclipse and Lian Li PC7+.

To that i'd add the Lian Li V1000+ and possibly the PC-101 if you want a door on the case. I have one and it cools very well and nearly silently. :)

Mine's got 4x 120mm sharkoon 1000rpm fans - they're very quiet and cool more than adequately:

That's two in the front of the case, one at the rear and the last on my thermalright heatsink. The little red one at the top is a xilence 92mm fan. Very quiet at full speed and simply helps to clear a little of the hot air the 8800GTX generates!

gt_junkie: Why is your rear fan outside the case, and should it not be blowing inwards on a V1000?
Hi p4radox,

I find it allows more space inside the case for larger coolers (had a titan Amanda Tec cooler which was massive!) and also makes it easier to work in.

As for the direction of flow i found the present configuration best (despite Lian Li recommending the set up you've mentioned).

Finally, as stated above: 2 sharkoons drawing air in at the front and one at the rear. Wanted as near to positive pressure in the case so dust would only try to make it into the case through the filtered main intakes at the front. ;)

Hi nicksource,

I've got an Antec Nine Hundred, it's got two 120mm fans on the front as intakes, with space for one to help pull air through in the middle of the case, one 120mm fan on the side window sucking air into the case too, and a 120mm fan on the back of the case exhausting air, and a huge 200mm fan on top exhausting hot air. The only fan I had to fit myself was the side fan on the window, all others were included.
Also, I've got a ~130mm fan on my power supply, will post better resolution images tomorrow probably.
You should check out Antec's website, it's got a 3D viewer thing for the case, see what you think.

My Antec Nine Hundred - (UV Cathodes not included :p)

Just my opinion, only problem with this case is that the fans that you get with it are audible on "Low" setting, not loud, but I can tell that they're there.
Although right now my Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 is the loudest thing in my case when it spins up to 2,000rpm.
Oh, that and my DVD reader/writer is annoyingly loud too...

Cases that are good for airflow off the top of my head and in order of cooling ability;

Akasa eclipse/mirage
lian li v1200/2000
lian li pc7
coolermaster stacker 830/2
antec 900

you can shove a stupid number of fans in the late stacker's, however you must work out your airflow logically or you will end up with 10 fans pushing air everywhere and no actual airflow. Done right it can have awesome thermals though this is hard to do with low noise. :)

I dont see how you have the eclipse/mirage at the top, I have a mirage and I think the air flow sucks. There is only 1 intake infront of the hdd cage and with 3 or more hdd's in there it blocks any air flow, I have installed a kama bay to help which has reduced temps by a lot. I replaced my 38cfm akasa fans with noctua 120mm (1200rpm)'s on the intake and exaust and it didn't help the temps either (without the kama bay).

If the Eclipse is that bad, then i can't imagine the PC7 being much better because it uses a very similar layout.

I also don't rate the V1200 as being very good, either, because if the rear fan is used as an exhaust there's no fan to blow cool air in the motherboard compartment. With most of these cases HDD bay converters (with 120mm fans) can be used to improve airflow, like fobose has experienced, but it means a lot of the drive bays are lost. Despite what people say about the Stacker 830, i still think it'd be pretty good for an air-cooled setup because it allows you to have 2x 120mm fans at the front of the case blowing cold air across the whole width of the motherboard, much like the Thermaltake Armor/Kandalf, Stacker 810, Antec 900 etc.
