Based on the recommendation at the begining of this thread I just finished Peter V Brett books and thought they were excellent!
Finished first book in just over a day. Real page turner and enjoyed how they developed the characters with some decent twists. Thanks again for the recommendation on this series!
Got the second book but it got wet in my bag so it's on the radiator drying so I can start reading ASAP

Finished the second Brett book (thats both in 7 days) and really impressed by the series. Not as straight forward and simple as I was getting lulled into believing it was and really looking forward to the next book. Characterisation is good and find myself invested in most of the main characters and story moves at a really good place.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, first book is 'The Wizard's First Rule' and there is a prequel called 'Debt of Bones', but I would recommend becoming familiar with the characters before reading this. Read them all a few times couldn't recommend more! The series on Syfy (Legend of the Seeker) is ****ing appalling though.

Yeah I enjoyed them too, but I would recommend not reading the new books until more are written. I though the main series ended well and to be honest, the whole thing could have ended there quite happily for me.
Very repetitive after about three books
It's also very black and white, none of the shades of grey you'll get with some authors.
If you like these, you'll probably like the Recluce series from L.E. Modesitt Jr. and some of his other work.

L.E Modesitt is quite good, read most of his fantasy stuff and some of his SF stuff, though he does get a bit heavy into goverments and law based stuff in his novels.
