Good first 350D set up

I'm about to purchase a 350d with a few extras but have heard the standard lens although good isn't all that. I obviously have the choice of body only so was thinking about doing that then buying a lens seperatly. What lens would you guys recommend as a good quality first lens. Something that will be good for standard shots but also give some leeway to play about with dof etc?

Or should I just get the bundled lens?

Buy the bundled lens and upgrade when you reach its limitations. it only adds around £50 to the deal.

There arent that many alternatives unless you want to spend quite a bit more dosh.

Yup, unless you have another £300+ for another wide lens then the kit lens is the only option. It's not actually that bad anyway.
