Going to sell my lga775 build as I don't want a big case and something more newer, guess I saw sense as I've been so picky and can't stick to something ha..

Anyways I've got something like this in mind, all brand new and is from a local store, just because it's easier in away..

INTEL Core™ i3-4160 Haswell CPU - Retail - £99.99
ASUS H81M-PLUS H81 Micro-ATX Motherboard - 1150 socket - £44.98
CRUCIAL Ballistix Sport Series DDR3 PC Memory - 8 GB DIMM RAM - £58.49
SAMSUNG 850 Evo 2.5" Internal SSD - 120 GB - £49.49
CORSAIR CS550M Gold Modular ATX PSU - 550 W - £69.99

£318.44

I have a cit shade mid/micro case that I brought brand new for rehousing older computer for resale that I ended up keeping, so rather than spend 400-600 on a whole system just spend on the internals as its a decent size without being a SFF and so the hx1000 psu is too big plus saves me buying a replacement psu for the mild gaming computer the lga775 is just to keep it appealing for that sense..

The idea is gaming with the odd kodi as I might get a entry APU SFF for that and currently the games I play are not on steam as of yet nor are they really demanding(maybe crysis and odd racing games for the older system).

I've got external hard drive for movies/software and I have 3x sata 3gb hdds for potential game storage option, so the 120gb would be just for operating system and I might reuse my 6670 unless I see something good that's not 2nd hand but still cheap, so the only thing I would need to add to the total price is a windows 7 64bit os to make use of 8gb otherwise go back to 4gb for my 32bit 7 I currently have..

So yeah is this a good use of £318? I am also looking on the bay for a complete system that is new and isn't a quad core a8/10 k APU to see what I could get.

OCUK do a better spec mobo/cpu/ram bundle that gets you an i5 instead for circa £227
Asus H81M-K Intel Core i5 DIY Micro ATX Motherboard, CPU & RAM Bundle

Worth the little bit extra IMO for the i5 over the i3...

Oh yeah the i5 more worth it, I was originally looking at a decent build that had a 1150 board coupled with g3220 and 4gb ram, it was 120 quid but I decided against in and brought my old computer for 70 as it had a 1000w psu of good brand and stuff that I did sell to crawl money back, but also saved spending more to get the other system to my liking..

Funny how things turned out, should've just spent 500 in the first place ha..

While I have had a little attempt at overclocking I'm not too bothered about that as far as cpu goes, I got afterburner for gpu that's why I thought i3 be good, but this is all based on new, I could get a good 2nd deal apart from all being in the wrong case.

There's little overclocking headroom on both the i3 and the i5 in the bundle I recommended.

However the i5 has four cores and not two so that makes all the difference..

As for your GPU 6670? i5 would be overkill for it no matter how much you were able to overclock it in afterburner.. But then getting an i5 would put you in good stead to upgrade your GPU the next chance you get ;)

Thanks for reply and ha yeah the 6670 would be a limiting factor, it suits what I've been using it for since purchased months ago, but knew it wasn't a gaming which is why I went for a 6870 but sadly had fault so returned it and got refund rather than exchange otherwise could've had a gtx 550/560 it versions as next best thing..

I've just done this little mock up for an idea..

I know it's neither an i3 or i5 but it's a K which usually tends to be the aim and the gpu was chosen for cheapest and sounds good in spec.. The sound card also added because I need optical as my 775 board is a gaming one so has that port on board and unless I buy a gaming board I will have to get a card.. Again only thing I'm missing is os as I haven't looked at how much 64bit 7 is going for.

Overclock potential will be limited on that board. Not saying impossible but not that great. Agree spend a bit more on the PSU

Thanks for replies and I thought the psu sounded decent as oc seem to have specific units and it's different, however new development has gone on meaning I have a totally different system as a result of it being brought for me and something pre-built so I didn't have to go through all the hassle which is nice actually..

Had to be from a shop that wasn't online and today purchase, but got to choose the system, so this is what I've got now.

PC Specialist Vulcan GTX Intel i3-4160 Dual Core Gaming PC

• Intel Core i3-4160 (3.6GHz) - Amazing dual core performance and stunning visuals with a boost
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Graphics (1GB) - Delivering twice the performance at half the power
• ASUS H81M-PLUS Motherboard
• 8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 MHz RAM
• Huge 1TB HDD for all your storage needs.
• Windows 8.1 - Take on the world with the latest operating system from Microsoft.
• 3 Year Manufacturers Warranty Package

It doesn't state, but it has the vs350 corsair fitted and while the psu, windows and possibly case wouldn't have been my choosing if building, for the money was the best I could find and be interesting how it gets on, but being a custom and 1150 socket I got good upgrade options in the future..

The VS series are really terrible psu's and are Corsair's extreme budget range. They have even cheaper internals than the CX series. I would be replacing that asap.

Yeah I know, I had my eye on a cs550m or 500 or whatever when I was looking to build.. But the computer is brand new and I only fired it up in shop to test it works, haven't had chance to even take it out the box yet as I've been busy lol, so will see how it goes..

it wasn't that expensive but nor was it cheap so don't want to faff with it like that yet, but psu certainly would be changed more so because I like having big power ha.
