Good free and simple web design application

Thanks for the links. Are there any which are stand alone applications? looks like the Google one is a web based application.
I did look at MS web developer but it seems it relies on coding for creating websites not simple drag and drops like the old days of FrontPage.

Probably best to go with the likes of GIMP and Notepad++ , as you're not going to get something that has the functionality of a multi-million pound utility for free.

I'm afraid if you want a respectable website, the chances are that you are going to need to face the code.

The reason Frontpage was so reviled was because it spawned a generation of wannabe web developers who didn't realise the horrendous tag-soup that your average WYSIWYG application produces (Yes, even dreamweaver).

If you already know (or intend to learn) the basics, then any text editor will suffice. But for various extra features, you could use:
  • MS Visual Web Developer
  • Aptana
  • HTML Kit
  • Notepad++

... and there are dozens more.

OK, thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully one of these my customer will find easy to get to grips with for editing their company website.
