Hi, im looking for a good gaming mouse preferably for the likes of fps's as im definitely at a disadvantage with my cheapo £2 mouse. Im looking to spend around £40. I know nothing about mouses, ive been real ignorant towards the importance of it for gaming thinking any would work. Thanks
 
Razer DeathAdder Black Edition. Came from a Razer Copperhead (which I LOVED) and I have to say its an extremely precise mouse when you get used to it. Got it for £35 too !
 
I have a 3500 dpi DeathAdder and I run it at 1800 dpi because 3500 dpi is just too sensitive for me.

I can't really see the point of 5700 dpi??
 
Cyborg RAT5 from experience as well as a Logitech MX Revolution, although I think this has been upgraded to the Performance MX.
 
i just upgraded to a Logitech G400 for £22.50 (on offer at one of the highstreet electrical shops), after using a cheapo mouse for ages. It seems much more accurate. Also, the extra buttons can be assigned to functions within a game which is cool.

DPI refers to the max sensitivity; e.g. 1000dpi: you move the mouse 1 inch with your hand, on screen it moves 1inch, 5000dpi: you move 1inch, it moves 5inches.

3600dpi really is overkill - my logitech is set at 1300dpi for general use and i can switch it to 2500in gaming when i need to be able to move quick. Generally as long as it is capable of 2000 dpi you're set.
 
DPI isn't a huge consideration as no matter what its set at you will get used to it. I have a mamba which is basically a deathadder (which i have also had) and loved them. personally i use my mamba at max dpi which is 5600 i think, but i have had it at that for so long that I am pin point accurate....then again my screen is a 27" so got a bit more real estate to zip around!

Any of the mouses mentioned are good. The logitech g500 is probably your best bang for buck but I would probably say the deathadder is the better mouse.
 
G400. Better than G500, equal to Razer DeathAdder 3.5g in performance but better in built quality, better warranty and also cheaper - according to these very knowledgeable gaming mice forums http://www.overclock.net/t/1324723/logitech-g500/20

Have a read there, tons of info on mice there. Dont go with fancy names, sparkly led lights and marketing fluff, lots of mice share the same sensor but have different performance in terms of jitter etc.

G500! It takes a little getting used to the rough edges which are meant to stop you slipping without the usual rubber grip sores. Great mouse with 5 set DPI control and auto switching profiles for games. Profiles for Call of Duty so I can use shotguns, snipers, machine guns and pistols all with just the click of a button.

It can change profile with Application Detection. You then have 5 predefined DPI profiles to pick from with just a click.

G500 has inconsistent acceleration problem that is inbuilt into its sensor. Its +/- 80 pixels at 1800 dpi sensitivity (more at higher dpi). Plus the sensor is off centre mounted which further compounds the inconsistency. G400 is a better gaming mouse without accel problems, low LOD, no anlgle prediction, centre mounted sensor. It also has dpi on the fly switch and is cheaper to boot.
G500 is about the worst choice at £40 imo :)
 
I've got a G400 and love it, it's got some buttons but not too many, haven't had any issues with the sensor, seems very accurate, and is definitely not to blame for my lack of gaming performance :p I would highly recommend it.
