Hello, i would like to ask some of the professional guys, what would be the best GPU for my current build? What i was planning to spend is around 200-250 pounds on GPU and maybe the PSU too if needed. I built this PC around 2 years ago or more not sure.
So my current build is:
CPU - I5 2500K
MB - P8Z77-V LE
PSU - BEQuiet PurePower 530W
GPU - Asus 7870 with Gelid Icy Vision cooler, since the orginal died.
CPU COOLER - Havik 120
HD - 1TB WD Black

I would like to get a new GPU since this one is gettin quite old and its slowely struggling with the new games.

Thank you for your reply! Would my PSU would be able to handle it? Does it require any more PCI pins? My current PSU has x2 (6 pin +2). Also are there any Nivida in my price range? I heard a lot of people have problems such as BSOD with the r9 290

Is your BeQuiet 530W the L7 or the L8 model? I recall that the review for the L7 wasn't that great...something about it not deliver its rated power output over the 12v rail.

I'm going to say no to this PSU im afraid for a 290, if it was 600 watt then it would just be about okay but 530 you could get away with some non intensive games but any games which ramp up your GPU % and cpu where its utilising near their max it will be drawing a lot of power of which your PSU might not be able to cope with.

That system will most likley use around 450-470 watts obviously when your stressing both cpu and gpu but you have to take into consideration how many usb devices you have connected, how many fans in your case, dvd/cd drives, basically other stuff that uses power.
Also with your system being 2 years old at least that PSU might not even be capable of a max 530 watts anymore probs more like 510 ish or slightly lower.

Anyways my point im trying to get across is. Yea you could get away with it but mighty close!!
If your cpu is overclocked then forget about it also if your planning on getting a overclocked out of the box gpu or doing it your self forget about it.

If you dont want to upgrade your psu then look at the 970 as this will be fine, or you'll need to upgrade.

If you could raise your budget a touch. The 970 is what I'd go for.

^ this!

Id look at this way if you want to go with a 290 you'll likley need to upgrade your psu but if you go with the 970 you shouldn't need to! So looking at a 970 you might actually save money i think seen as its 40 pounds difference between them or something.
