Hello,

ATI or nvidia for a quiet cool running card, and which ones to look at?

budget is up to 150 for this buy.

thanks

^^ as above, if you can go to it, think there's a Powercolour 1gb 4870 going for around £165. Great buy. Probably best bang for buck available atm. You get some future proofing for a wicked price.

Thanks for the info.

I looked at the two and the 4870 has a much shorter board which is VERY good for my case. Nvidia is way too long and I think it will clash with my reservoir.

ATI is a bit cheaper too, but how the two compare and against lets say a 3870XT I tried out and know its limits?

I assume 55nm is cooler and quieter though and possible worth to move the reservoir for it.

I "play" Flight Simulator X mostly, and will always "demo" the new games ... not much really.

Thanks!

It bugs me how ATI's generally aint quiet enough still as its the only thing that keeps me on the green team until i'm confident enough to fit a custom cooler.

I decided to go with a silent build now as I liked the silence over the few days I had no system at all. :p

I still hear my ATI spinning in my head though occasionally! :D

I am now looking at the 260's 55nm and trying to figure out how I will fit it. The power connectors at the side make things a bit easier in my case but I need to get 90deg connectors if I can find them.

Any people with the 55nm 260 kind to comment on temps/noise?

thanks!

Is FSX known to perform specifically with nvidia?

Edit: some research on review sites shows that 200 series is useless for FSX. 9800 seems the best for the money on FSX. Maybe is drivers?

I believe the term is "You get what you pay for". ;)

ATI can't fit high quality silent coolers and still keep prices cheap.
