£125 for a 6 cell battery from Dell ???

Inspiron 6400.

It says on their website you should only buy a Dell battery for your
Dell laptop.

Is this bull and if so what should i be paying around?

£125!?!

When I bought my Inspiron it had just a delay of a few weeks, but it was free. The 9 cell was free too so I took that.

Look on an auction site tbh.

Auction site for a seller with good feedback in the UK selling genuine batteries. £125 is ridiculous for any Dell battery, especially when it's not a 9 cell.

Just out of interest I see some on ebay that are from Hong Kong ect
and they are about £35 deliv.

I know they are 3rd party batteries but should I be cautious ?

Has anyone here used a 3rd party battery with good results ?

we used to sell them all the time at a shop i used to work for, never had any come back! Batteries for laptops typically only last a couple of years at the most anyway before they're pretty much useless so it's not like it's a big outlay

Nope but I am sure it will be fairly good, I got a no name 10,400mAh (77wh) model for my EeePC and it lasts about 2.5x as long as the standard 4,400 mAh.

Just orded (19/09/2008) a replacement dell battery from that ebay shop £55.93 delivered.
It's a 3rd party battery "danaq" and feedback suggests its perfectly fine.

I will update when I get the battery and all is working.
that way if anyone else needs a quick cheaper replacement this
thread may help.

andy..

Sorry if I wasn't being clear I didn't get a spare free. But I got a nine cell battery with the laptop at no extra cost.

*UPDATE*

Got the battery this morning (24/09/2008) and so far so good works perfect.
So at this point I would recommend a 3rd party battery without any worries.
If the thing blows up or fails I will update, from another computer obviously lol.

PS- I'd recommend the seller I used on ebay. they were 1 of only 2 UK sellers at the time of typing this and they had 100% positive feedback.

3rd party battery cost: £55 deliv. Dell website: £125 deliv = saving £70
