i just placed the order for my new pc from ocuk, should be here tomorow. however it will only be the second time i have done it and im not sure how exactly to do it. everything should be fine but i was wondering if anyone has any particulary good guides i can follow if i get stuck. thanks

If you read this thread - link - all the way through you'll probably be armed with all the info you need.

But if you do a google/youtube for 'how to build a pc' - you'lll probably get some useful results - but maybe not as entertaining as the above thread.

i have looked on google but i was a bit susspicious. maybe im paranoid but i didnt want to trust them. youtube might be an idea. thanks for the link though. and how is the best way to earth yourself? i dont have any fancy things like a strap or wrist band. i heard touching a radiator will work, what is the best way? thanks

I work on a wooden table and touch the bare metal on a radiator periodically for new builds.

I set the build up and install the OS and drivers, initially, on a piece of cardboard - and only install to the case once i'm happy that it appears to be operating correctly. This makes the troubleshooting process that bit simpler if you run into any problems.

When i'm upgrading a machine i just leave the psu plugged in (but switched off at the mains) and touch the case periodically to earth myself.

Just make sure you're not wearing/etc anything woolen to avoid static shock. Also, try handle the componets by the edges. Some items will need some force to insert since new, but good to remove & check:
  1. Its the right way round;
  2. & nothing obstructing/blocking
Have a look at this guide. Recommend also you give the motherboard manual a quick skim through.

If you get stuck don't hesitate to ask here.

Good luck building & post up some pics if or when you can ;)

Just to reiterate what Plec and hp said, if you've built one before you should be fine, and you have the confidence to order all the parts which is more than a lot of people.

Just take your time, double check everything. Quick read through the mobo manual is good advice.

GD is a pretty friendly place so if your in doubt just pop a question up.

as above, but make sure your pc is ventilated correctly...............i have only one priority in my build, and that is that the intake fans aren't blocked by hard drive cages and wiring etc.

moving this crap out of the way is my only real ``Case Mod``
