My head is fairly substantial and I wear glasses, not the best combo for comfort. I am currently using ATMH30x, whilst they're okay for short bursts using them tends to lead to me having a headache.

I'd like open back for quality, but since I use a mod mic I think there would be a lot of interference caused so I guess closed back would be best. Not sure I could get away with a mod mic and in-ear buds or the like either!

I've read a few threads and search results and it seems recommendations are DT770s, HD599 (i think) but have read conflicting info about them being uncomfortable.

Any guidance offered appreciated!

You would be listening at hearing damage starting in minutes volumes, if noise leak to microphone would be problem.
Or were you intending to bend mic's arm into knot to have mic next to ear instead of mouth?
And even then some average noisy mechanical keyboard would be bigger problem.

Beyerdynamic's headband would be better hope.
Sennheiser's plasticky headband might not take bending well, while you could loosen Beyer's steel headband from middle part.

Oh really? Watching reviews of most open back headphones have stated that there is interference, granted that was with a boom mic type affair but figured it would be the same with a modmic. If not however then I'll gladly consider open back since it opens up a much larger range and of better quality headphones too!

Okay great, would the AKG bands be similarly modifiable? Thanks!

AKG's "automatically adjusting" head band relies partially on pressure to keep cups on their place. So probably couldn't be adjusted by bending. Also it has elastic strings which loosen over time even normally and if those had to keep cups from creeping down they would certainly tire faster.

Okay, good to know, ta!

I've got a pretty large noggin, 63cm, impossible to find decent hats lol, and despite what people say about clamping force I can wear my hd650's for hours with glasses. they are very comfy. Never felt the need to try and bend the headband.

Interesting, maybe Sennheiser are worth considering then!

So it seems I may have been wrong about open back headphones being unsuitable due to possibly interfering with my modmic
so will look into them too!

I've used k712, K702 and beyer TYGR 300 with mod mic no problem. I'd say AKG would be good with a big napper and gigs, relatively low clamping force ( thought) and very comfortable to wear. K702 would be worth trying out anyway as they're cheap as chips for a refurbished pair off the flea market.

I presume napper is head, and gigs are glasses? Okay, so maybe akg are worth considering, have looked about for the refurbished items but haven't found anything (that's in stock anyway). If you are aware of their location trust me a link please?

You could try the HD599, often goes on sale on the rainforest. That thing has zero clamp force and stretches very wide.

Cool, I was on the fence of whether the HD range would be comfortable but it seems they will be. Probably the lightest too from what I can tell.

Phillips Fidelio X2HR would be a great choice... they look kinda ugly but they would really suit a big noggin and are very comfortable.

I have a medium head and theres about an inch of room over my head between the elastic and solid band and the clamp on them is quite gentle.

Open back but I have no issues with my boom mic

I do really like the look of them actually! The only thing offputting is the weight which seems almost double that of its rivals. Good to know about the mic situation as that was something I was a bit concerned about with open back!

Big old noggin here as well. I wear a pair of HD600s for hours on end each day. The XR2s are also very comfy but they are heavy and you do notice that after a while.

Another vote for sennheisers, i'll have to consider them a bit closer!
