Good headphones for music production?

Budget is 250-300 Euros.

Looking for a good pair of headphones for my late night beat making sessions (Hip Hop, EDM). They will be plugged in external gear (MPC, synths, samplers etc), in my Yamaha mixer or audio interface.

Over ear, preferably open back, comfortable and of decent quality.

AKG K712 Pro and HD650's seem popular, are they any good? Any other recommendations?

Also, am I going to need an amp? I don't think it's needed, since the hardware I'll be plugging them in already have headphone amps, right? I'd like to avoid getting one, if possible.

I can get the 712's for 230 euros and the 650's for 300. I think I'll get the 712's.

How are the 712's in the bass department? Being open, do they lack in that area?

Did some more reading, and came across these values:

712's Impedance: 62 Ohm
650's Impedance: 300 Ohm

Is it safe to assume that the 712's are far less dependant on an amp?

Well I ended up ordering the sennheiser 600's. I had second thoughts about paying that much for headphones but I hope they will last me a long time.

I'm not sure, the 6xx seem very popular and there are plenty of replacement parts.

I got my HD600's and I am very pleased with them. Excellent build quality and they sound fantastic, very comfy too.

Now, my 10 year old sound card (Creative Fatality Titanium Pro) provides decent power but having to move them constantly between my sound card and my audio gear is a bit tedious, my mixer doesn't seem to provide enough juice. So I'm thinking that I could get an audio interface, which not only would provide better amplification, but would allow me to switch between headphones/monitors very easily. I'm thinking something like the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. Do you think that it would drive my 600's well enough? I suppose it could be quite the improvement over my Creative card, right? Is it possible for such an audio interface to replace a dedicated amp?
