Hi folks.

Just wondering what the ideal sleeve and laptop carry bag would be for a Dell XPS L702x. These are a fairly chunky laptops, an mine has a 9-cell battery attached, so I'd rather not have to keep taking the battery out, yet at the same time I'd like a bit of protection for my laptop when carried around.

Obviously the 9 cell battery may be an issue with the sleeve, so I guess I'd have to get a thicker one.

The idea is, I can use the sleeve as a cover at night so the cats don't knock it about, an it's protected from any knocks or spills and also so I don't have to keep storing it in the Dell box either. The bag, I'll need prior to Christmas because I'll be travelling too an from family an I'd like to keep the laptop nice and secure n' protected. This laptop weighs about 3-4kg. It's about 18"-19" across (17" screen) and with the battery, is raised about 3 inches from the back. Depth at the end (near the touch pad) is about an inch.

Any ideas? I've seen a few Belkin ones on Amazon that look good (both sleeves and bags), but I'm not sure.

Thanks - oh n Merry Christmas :p

Hi There i just bought a sleeve off the Auction site for £4.99 its a mesh type thing and does the job great keeps it dust and scratch free ! just go into the site and type in XPSL702x case or cover and you,ll find one :)

Just bought the Samsonite V7609004 from the rainforest for my XPS 17. Apparently it's adequate even when using the 9 cell battery.

Belkin 17 Inch Notebook Sleeve - Neoprene - Jet/Cabernet:

Would it fit the sleeve with a 9 cell battery? This is the Belkin one I saw on Amazon which caught my interest. I also need a notebook bag for this XPS, an it needs some compartments for a solid mouse mat and a notebook mouse and a few other bits like small USB hub, flash drive, bits n bobs, yet be adequately protective from knocks and scratches. I think there is a Belkin bag on Amazon too, but I just don't want to end up buying the wrong thing, or something that doens't fit.

Samsonite? I'll have to look that one up.

Thanks for contributing.

My L702x has the 9 cell too and it fits perfectly.

I figured it might, since I recall seeing someone complaining about the sleeve saying it's meant to be snug, not allowing the laptop to move about. That'd explain the room for the 9 cell. Very useful. Belkin sleeve it is. Thanks for helping.

Probably get a Belkin carry bag as well. Will order within the next few mins or so, I'm exhausted, so I'm going to get it over and done with lol.

Peace folks. :o ho ho ho.

Merry Christmas lol

woah woah woah... wait... apparently the notebook compartment height is, 3.2cm according to belkin, as one user puts it on their Amazon review. He said it was a tight fit.

If you have an L702x and that 9 Cell battery, which obviously raises it, how much of a tight fit is it for yours? I don't mean on either side obviously, I mean the gap between the shell and the underside. I don't want that zip being forced, it has to move easy an actually fit it. I don't fancy stuffing it in there because it won't last more than a few weeks.

Peace

It's a snug fit rather than a tight fit. It obviously bulges because of the 9 cell battery and there is a little resistance when closing the zip but the neoprene stretches slightly making it very easy to zip it up.

I currently use a padded jiffy bag as a sleeve for my lappy :) It may sound silly but it's an excellent fit, they are well padded and when in my bag has a slightly higher chance at deterring potential thieves simply because it just looks like an envelope rather than a laptop

Here are a few pictures of my L702x with 9 cell battery in the Belkin sleeve:

Lol Jiffy bag. Not a bad idea I'll admit but I'd fancy something a little more stylish lol. But you're right, it'd be more likely to deter thieves.

str, couldn't help but think earlier on, if it was a tight fit, is that metallic zip from the inside (where you get the little square of the zip closing the zig-zag together), will that scratch the laptop? This has been my concern for most zip-up laptop sleeves. It'd seem rather daft if that zip had a metallic backing. If I do get the Belkin sleeve, I'll be getting the matching Messenger bag. :)

Thanks for putting in an effort and posting pictures. Much appreciated.

Oh an for it to fit comfortably, does the battery have to be that way round or can it be at the other end?

Thanks.

The zip does have a metal backing but there is a cushioned surround below it which prevents the zip from touching the laptop.

The battery can be the other way around, it requires a little more care when inserting the laptop into the sleeve.

I'll get that Belkin one then. It was my first choice, but I'm guessing you know what I'm like when it comes to buying things... lol such as my Laptop. Tends to happen because I'm not rich, otherwise I wouldn't give a rats arse lol.

Thanks again str and to everyone else who helped. :D

Ugh! Why did you have to post the 3D glasses in the photos that you got for a bargain :D. Talk about rubbing it in, haha.

I have the same sleeve, fits nicely, maybe a little loose but then you don't have to worry about squeezing it in and potentially scratching the laptop.

Check out the Belkin slim back pack off the rainforest. I picked one up and it is great.

Oh and I had to use something for holding the sleeve open for the first picture so I thought why not use the glasses lol. :o

I ordered my stuff two days ago, so I should have it tomorrow or Saturday. Sleeve/Messenger/Laptop Bag/Belkin Cushdesk. Lol, got to love Belkin stuff, it's everywhere.

Spent the most time looking for mouse mats. Was looking for a slim SOLID mouse mat, but unfortunately the only one there was a razer one, an it cost like 30 quid an I had to pay for postage, so instead I spent £3.49 on a Speedlink Silk lol. Tis a good mat.
