So i think I have finally settled on a machine to order.

Here are the specs

Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz S775
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
XFX GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 PCIE Dual DVI XT ED
4 x Crucial 1G Ballistix 240pin DIMM PC2-8500 Unbuffered
Western Digital Caviar 500GB S300 16mb 7200rpm
OCZ Technology 850W Active PFC GameXStream SLI Ready
Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18X+/- IDE BLACK BARE DRIVE

Anyone with a similar machine care to comment on performance?? Adjustments?

Looks pretty good although I'd get a lower wattage PSU as that is complete overkill, the Corsair HX 520w or 620w would be more than sufficient. I'd also change to a SATA DVDRW and then you should be good to go. :)

Looks pretty good. I might swap the PSU for the 520W Corsair one as its quieter IMO. Also, the 8800GTX can be a bit of a waste of cash now the GT is out, but it does perform better so I suppose its down to how much cash you have...

Either way, it'll be a good system

Thanks for your input. I thought it would be best to get the bigger PSU for future proofing and because I am planning on overclocking this baby.

What would you suggest for the SATA DVDRW?

Pioneer, Samsung and NEC all do good DVDRWs, just pick any as they are much of a muchness.

The Corsair HX 620w can cope with quad-core, SLi, watercooling, overclocking and multiple hard drives so I'd reckon it will be easily capable for that system, particularly as you couldn't go for SLi. :)

and how about this for the SATA DVD DRIVE

Pioneer DVR-212D 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM

Good?

Thanks. So this machine wont be capable of running SLI?

No, because it uses a different chipset, you could run Crossfire but the P35s only have one 16x PCI-E slot and one 4x PCI-E slot that I recall so not totally ideal and that only applies with ATI cards. Generally unless you have a huge monitor and want to play at full settings I reckon dual graphics card solutions to be a bit of a waste of time.

That DVDRW would be fine.
