I am planning to arrange a demo at Richer sounds this week to test out a few soundbars/ soundbases.

I was trying to think of a few films to bring, and which part to watch. For example I was thinking the first 5 minutes of gladiator.

Anyone have any suggestions? probably no more than a 5 minute clip.

How much different are sound bars at say £400, I can't imagine any of them being amazing?

I though they were primarily aimed at replacing the abomination that are super thin TV speakers, now with the added bonus some setups contain a sub to make them sound worth buying. Not to say you shouldn't be demoing them, making an informed purchase is very important, and as much as guns and explosions are great, to me the mid range would be the most important since voices make up most of a films sound output. :)

They are a massive difference from TV speakers!

For me it is the space issue, and also what I can get past the wife. Something like 5.1 is definitely not happening as she doesn't want visible speakers everywhere. Will probably get a soundbase that the TV shows on as it is the most discreet option and doesn't require a sub.
