Good mouse mat for gaming

Just got a Zowie FK1. Now need a decent general-purpose as well as gaming mat for it. Must be the normal, small(ish) size, as I don't have a lot of desk space. Must also have a black surface, as the mouse doesn't like patterned/pictured mouse mats.

What do you recommend? Are the metal ones any good? Not concerned over price, just want something that feels good and is hard wearing.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
 
I'd recommend a giant cloth mat like the OcUK XXL mega mat or the 3XL. Cover the whole desk with it. The benefits are:

1) slight padding for your wrists when typing
2) You can never go off the end of the mouse mat in game without physically standing up and walking out of the room.
3) They make the desk look tidier.
4) They help stop your keyboard slipping around.
 
icemat. black glass. tried loads of others and nothing comes close
cloth ones sometimes have issues with some types of laser because of the roughness or texture of the material, similar with some neoprene type ones but that is normally down to a crap laser. but never get these issues with an icemat
 
I love my OCUK cloth mat.
