Hey there

So I'm looking for a good online shooter on the PC with a big playerbase. Which would you recommend?

Also, I would like something that has a ranking system online, that gives some more incentive to keep playing rather than the UT style where you just play and don't increase rank or whatever.

If you can recommend any other shooters with a ranking system please let me know.

Thanks for your help and time.

Team Fortress 2 is amazing!!!

I gave TF2 a blast, i must admit it's a damn fine game. But it seemed that the game was a bit hit & miss for me (Like CS2) dodgy netcode maybe? dodgy server? dodgy player?......or am i just missing some config tweaks to get the best out my conenction for/to the game?

I havent really noticed a problem even on crap servers. you have to pick a character based on what your playing agaisnt, best to play on a server where they talk on comms as that helps too.

TF2 rules

best server browser
source engine
excellent maps
lots of variation
tactical play
very stable
tons of servers and players

I was going to get The Orange Box but I went in both GAME and Gamestation and they didn't seem to have any in stock so I got CoD4 instead.

Edit: I've just finished installing the game, now do I need to download every patch for CoD4 or just the most recent one? (v1.7)

Ok so just been playing a couple games of CoD4 online and it doesn't seem as good as CoD2 tbh. Maybe that's just me prefering the WWII thing, I don't know lol.

Depends on how you mean realism...I presume just the graphics?

Gameplay wise the recoil is horrible (not really apparent), and you can snipe with an SMG

the guns sound like toys

and the airsupport turns the game into a spam fest

If that is where you set your bar for realism don't ever play Red Orchestra, you might actually lose the ability to determine what is real and what isn't.

Well compared to TF2 anyways :p *runs*
