Good overclock for an AMD64 3500

Hello there. I have an AMD64 3500 with a venice core, using it in conjunction with an AK-855-BL Akasa cooler.

What kind of overclock should I expect. 2.2ghz to 2.4ghz is no problem, but should I try to eek out some more?

IIRC the 3500+ was never that good of an overclocker. I think the highest I have read one go on 'normal' cooling was aorund 2.8ghz with most topping out at 2.6ghz.

I would aim for 2.6ghz myself, any more is a bonus.

It's mostly a gaming PC, and as yet I don't think dual cores are making a massive difference. Until they do I'm going to stay with 939 and then perhaps go core duo when the difference starts to tell.
 
tbh if you want to "predict" your overclock, get your stepping and google and there will be forums about oc'ing results on that particular stepping :)
 
Yes it does actually, for instance:

A really good Venice stepping will do 2.8GHz with low voltage, and 2.9GHz with higher voltage. Whilst some will do 2.7GHz with very high voltage.......It varies. In my experience stepping does make a difference!

i've got one, socket 939.

can do 3050MHz for super pi and benchmarking and upto 3221MHz for a screenshot thats on 1.7v, but with 1.48v it did 2.907GHz 24/7 folding@home stable.

ive also got an akasa heatsink, but a cheaper £4 one.

46c full load @ 2.907GHz. Was at just below 50c when benchmarking just above 3GHz.

cheers for that people....the reason it isnt showing the voltage is because I submitted it to the CPU-z database and it greys out the vcore then for some unknown reason, however, the vcore was set to 1.7v BIOS, 1.64v actual.
