Could someone recommend to me a graphics card that would be good for overclocking? Not looking to spend much on it, probably around £50-£60, maybe a little higher if its really worth it, so probably looking at 2nd hand through the MM or something. Trying build an overclocking machine on a budget. so if I blow it up it won't hit the wallet too hard.

At the moment the components I have are an opteron 144 and an msi k8n neo4 platinum (hopefully - waiting for a response from the chap).

I am looking at an x800xl pci-e with an arctic cooler silent hsf, on another forum, seeing if I can get it for the price I want. Would this be a good option? Anything better for the price range (or a little higher) that I mentioned above?

That's a good card if you can get it within your budget. As far as getting a card that will overclock well,it's a bit hit & miss really, some overclcock well & others don't.Luck of the draw really mate.
Won't the guy your buying the card from be able to tell you what it clocks to ?

Cheers, will ask him. To be honest dunno how receptive he'll be, can't really go near his asking price, just hoping the fact that it has been sat there a month with no takers means he is willing to drop quite a bit.

If you can get a x800xl for £50/£60 then go for it. It will be a crap clocking card - but even at stock, it will be way more powerful than any cards at that price bracket.

That x800 purchase seems to have fallen throuh, given that the guy hasn't responded in a week now :(

Could someone recommend a card for £55-60? Could possibly push to £70 if it was worth it. Can be second hand so hopefully opens up more options (although obviously depends on whats going) ...

Just go all the way and get the HIS X800GTO.. probally the card out atm with the best price/performance ratio. It overclocks like a beast but if you really can't afford it then dis-regard this comment.

you may be able to pick an X800GTO2 up for £80 from Members market ?? they are probably the greatest overclocking card of the last year. (just make sure its an original batch GTO2 not the later revisions, you can tell because the GPU needs to be 480 with a red circuit board, later ones had R430 cores with blue boards and were sucky clockers)

my X800GTO2 : stock = 4400 3D05 marks
unlocked to 16 pipes (which all the first batch ones did) and clocked from 400/490 to 550/600 6450 3D05 marks. :D
