I think it's time for a new desk but no matter where i look it just low cost rubish that will fall to bit's in no time. where is a good place to get a glass desk.

Is it ok to post links and other brand names as OCuK dont sell desks????

I suppose it depends to a certain extent whether you are are an 'office' type desk, or one which looks more like a piece of furniture for 'home' use!

I could do with a new one myself, so will be keeping an eye on the replies.

I got mine at a local furniture warehouse. Proper solid pine, although wasn't cheap. But was sick of crappy desks that kept falling to bits from the usual high street/retail park retailers.

I bought mine from saxen.co.uk. I bit pricey but very stylish. Excellent customer service as well (I had to replace a glace top when it cam shattered in delivery)

Can't find my desk on it at the moment. Will keep looking though...

Ah, here it is:

Keyboard isn't the widest but it wasn't bad for £79 when I bought it. And apparently it's homeofficedesks.co.uk

Get a solid surface from ikea and a couple of legs xD Or build it yourself, After uni I won't be able to cope with anything less than about 1.5m as a desk size...

Nah...build some special yourself, get a bit of MDF, a drill and jigsaw and some paint and some fancy lights :)

Buillt this myself, and am chuffed to bits with it, all the wires underneath are hidden by the barge boards I made myself and whilst the lights look very bright in the pic they are NO WHERE as bright as the pics makes out.

I have 4 sets of LED lights that I got from ebay for about £20 the lot, the red set for underneath , the blue behind the monitor and to the righthand side plus another bright white set behind the monitor if I need more light when not gaming etc, plus also all the lights are wired into a single 12v adaptor and each light has its own independant switch, which are all underneath the desk out of sight.

Also just to be flash (cos I could) underneath the holes on the right of the desk I also have 3 92mm 12v fans on a switch with a speed controller to suck any hot air collecting beneath up and out the top.

Wow... I am impressed!.

What a great set up, and one which I am sure has made a lot of members (myself included) very envious. ;)

that it a kick ass set up but i'm 100% that if i have glowing think like that the woman would be having words.

there as been some help and i will be picking up my new deck saturday

Yeah I was impressed myself, especially as I am not a DIY sort of person.

It was all in the "vision" I had and the preparation....

It was a large sheet of 15mm thick MDF

Secured to the wall on each side just using wodden battens

another piece of 12mm MDF on the left side for extra support as it had a bit of "flex" still in it.

The shaped was then marked out carefully and cut a little too large in case i made any
errors as you can always cut more off.

Once shape was done drilled holes on the right hand side, and using a small sander rounded off the edges so that they are like bowling ball holes.

Placed 2 corner shelves at the back, again from thin MDF just using battons screwed against the wall.

The real pain is painting the MDF, after a lot of research, I found best way was to sand it, then use 3 coats of MDF primer sanding again between each one before applying a good quality "Silk" (smelly type) paint.

No one in a million year would think it was just MDF.

The boards underneath were an after thought, again just thin MDF prepared and painted and drilled with holes to hide all cabling and wires and plugs :) and these were just cut to size and hang underneath using hooks.

Most difficult bit was all the lighting, I started with just one set....then it began to grow :) and was tedious trying to connect lots of wires into a single choc block !

In all if you get the MDF from someone NOT like Homebase who rip you off, it was like £50-£60 in materials.

Oh and 2 sets of leather effect draws from Wilkos !!
