Good PC Games

and how is that different than any FPS?

It's Boring ! - that is how it is different.

I have to agree with the others, FEAR is very over rated and I didn't get close to finishing it. The highly scripted scares made it even worse. Just dull dull dull.

I played it after finishing Escape from Butcher Bay, and that was utterly brilliant and far from boring.

You want scary, do that bloody Thief 3 level in the asylum. Oh and that is a good game too !

Other FPS feel like there is a point to them. Deus Ex is move and shoot but I was thoroughly enjoying every second of it :)

Deus Ex was great, as was HL, my point was the underlying story of any FPS is moving and shooting and that alone isnt enough to say a game is boring.

I personally found fear average, after playing the demo the game lost a lot of that fear, the slow down was ok but the weapons didnt really add anything extra to the game. I actually found the dual pistols the best in the game. It had the same bad guys all the way through the game and it felt a little too much like Max Payne for my liking.

Deus Ex has and RPG element to it, 3 story choices to be made in the middle of the game and 3 different endings. Not to mention you could play the entire game as a super stealthy agent or and all out gun slinging mad man.

in no particular order,

HL2 & EP1
Dark Messiah
Call of Duty 1 & 2
IL2 - Forgotten Aces
BF2
Oblivion
STALKER

All of those are great games and get the adrenaline pumping.

and just a couple I bought and hated (which were highly regarded however by the press)
Quake 4
FEAR
Farcry

wiped them all in disgust and gave 'em away for free. they were'nt worth money!

He makes a point though. The reason why Counterstrike is still popular since 1999, for instance, is thanks to the unpredictability element online.

Games like FEAR, Far Cry, and so on are great games - until you decide you want to play some more and you realise the single player route will be the exact same and the multiplayer route is lacklustre.

All it takes is a simple (can't stress that enough, CS is so dead simple its unbelievable), addictive multiplayer mode and THEN you got a kickass game.

That being said, it isn't all grim. Give one of the Hitman series a try, now thats a slightly different experience :)

Exactly, kinda.

The reason I have gone off FPS's is that most rely too heavily on the multiplayer aspect.

I'm not a huge fan of games sans a storyline, hence my general love of RPGs.

System Shock 2, Deus Ex, even the oldie Strife offered an immersive world to go along with the bang boom fun.

I hope Bioshock can offer similar.

I think not.

The storyline and alien buisness just does'nt appeal.

Isnt Prey the game where you end up in an alien ship and you can run up walls etc, there isnt any down?

Never actually played Farcry before at all, could probably pick it up 2nd hand from the local Gamestation for like a fiver, worth getting and playing now or am I likely to look at it and go "ewww!" and turn it off because it's old? :)

I think it will still look good if you can run it on full settings. I don't think it's so old that my fond memories of it are down to nostalgia - it really is an excellent game.

If your a FPS fan then CS:S is the only way to go, good competitive online leagues aswell.
Played that for quite a while myself, really did like it but there was some right ****s playing it, like you'd get a headshot with a pistol and all you'd see is: "OMGF HAX1!!1" just got a bit old after a while. It is a good game though, just shame about 80% of the member base :)

I wouldn't get your hopes up - reading this preview, it looks as thought Bioshock has been xbox'd like DX2, given that the only version they were prepared to demo was the console version: http://firingsquad.com/games/bioshock_preview/
