Hi guys, just wondering apart from the Blackberry Bold 9790 and 9900 are there any new'ish good physical QWERTY phones?

Thanks

Not really, no. The Bold 9900 is the pick of the bunch, with the Desire Z being a landscape Android option.

If you want portrait, you are really limited to the 9900, the Torch2 and maybe the Dell Venue Pro if it is still being sold.

Yeah think I might pick up the 9900, unless the 9790 drops in price (like the smaller size over the 9900)

Kinda missing the physical keyboard of my old 9780

Xperia X2 (or X1) but Windows Mobile 6.x heh... camera is a bit lacking on them tho and 1-2 other minor issues also lacking horse power for stuff like decent res video these days.

Yes, I do. I moved from a Motorola Milestone, which I also thought was excellent for the time; things have moved on significantly in the Android world now, mind.

Is the browser decent now or does it still need work (I know its a big improvement over OS6 browser but thats not saying a lot :p), how is YouTube and flash on it?, also as the battery life improved or is it still the same as launch?

Thanks :)

Heh wouldn't be so bad if it was Win7 :p

Bold 9900 browser is alright no flash though.
Bold 9790 should be cheaper than the 9900 on release as its meant to be a "cheaper" Bold.

9900 battery improved for me with one of the latest OS updates.

9900 is an excellent phone.

+1

Brilliant phone i concur...keyboard and touch screen works pretty damn good. Absolutely love mine even though there are better phones out there but mostly touchscreen though.

The only thing I find slightly poor is the battery life; I was hoping for more than a day's usage.

Mine lasts easily for a day and my useage is pretty high ie around 100+ emails, a good few hrs of BBM'ing, texting and phone calls. Also a bit of youtube and browsing to pass the time.

I actually hate WM 6.5 and 7 but like 6.1 pro as you can strip it down easily to bare metal (very basic menu driven OS) and rebuild with the UI and apps you want - bit geeky tho and not consumer friendly.

You _can_ get Android running on them but its not straight forward at all.

Good to know the battery as improved, however I thought OS7 had flash support for some reason

I don't mind doing stuff like that if it isn't too complicated (been with Android for awhile so used to flashing ROM's and other stuff)

Its rather complicated - you need to patch a lot of stuff after flashing/rooting it as it wasn't designed for the phone - and the most stable version uses emulation running on haret rather than a native ROM.

The keyboard is as mentioned above somewhat average but its another QWERTY option I thought I'd throw out there.
