Are there any other alternatives to this? I had a quick and I mean a very quick look but the only ones I know are phpbb (which is just forums or do they do websites) and e107?

I like e107 but the themes seem hard to track down especially for updated ones and I'm not sure if old themes would have security holes in or if thats just the actual package its self

I have hosting/domain name just as someone with no web development skills these packages suit me lol

Just looking for something that has a set of themes, easy to install and easy to customize (ideally colour of different things) - e107 seems to be a little bit different to how I remember. There is a theme on there I like but the colour is wrong for what I want.

Can probably guess, I'm setting this up for a guild for an MMO and I just want it to be simple but effective.. found a theme I liked and then the forums looked unclean due to a lack of borders on the sides.. raging!

I appreciate your suggestions bud, I'll have a trawl through them and see if I can find something that suits my needs.. at the first glance of wordpress, looks like thats geared towards blogging mostly

Wordpress is mainly a blogging system but many people with the use of some of the plugins etc... make it act like a cms(e107etc..)

Unless you are very lucky you will struggle to find a theme exactly how you would like it. Generally people will find one that they like the layout of and then make changes to suit them.

Some themes will let you change the styling in the control panel others you will have to change in the CSS files.

Yeah I've done a little bit of the modding already its just silly little things that you think would be easy to remove from a menu that you can't that frustrate me, I guess I'll have to deal with it for the moment unless I find something else suitable :)

Wordpress is a very good CMS. Can integrate a blog and forum very easily, and theres thousands of plugins. It's also extremely easy to learn.

Edit: and very customisably, especially if you know how to program.

Wordpress is a good cms where a simple cms is needed, it is arguably the best blogging platform.

It's biggest strong point has also been shown to be it's biggest downfall. Anyone can copy and paste some code together call it a plugin & put it online. New person comes along and installs it/trusts it without a second thought because it is on the main Wordpress site. This has lead to some major security breeches, data stolen. A lot of these sites were also chucked online by "developers" & "programmers".

It is not the right tool for every job out there, as a lot of people think. It can be bent in to shape, made to do what you want. But why bother when there is a system already out there that will do the job. Without the overhead of loading badly optimised and written plugins? No not all plugins are like this but a lot are!

You shouldn't have to rely on plugins to make a "cms" be search engine friendly, have decent members/authors areas etc.. If the site you want is more community driven then why not use a CMS that is built, designed & developed to do just that.
