Hi,

I've just bought an X1950Pro AGP as an upgrade to my graphics card following some good advice on this forum. Unfortunately my PSU doesn't meet the specs required so I need to upgrade that too.

The only PSU's I can find are ones with either something like 20a or so on the 12v rail, or multiple 12v rails with 16a each. I need 30a on the 12v. My current PSU comes nowhere close.

Can anyone recommend a good PSU that does have the required 30a on a single rail. Or can you just add the two 12v rails together?

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at that.

My current PSU is an X-Power 400W. It's only got 18a on 12v. I've also got 2 HDD in the PC so I don't think it's going to be enough.

No way do they need 30a, theres no cards out that have to have that much, its way over estimated, even the most power hungry card going the 2900 XT doesn't need 30a on the 12v rail, its absolutely ridiculous them saying they need 30a, i powered my old x1800 XT on a single 12v rail rated at 28a, and that same PSU is now powering my GTS fine, and both those use more power than the x1950.

Agree with Cyber-Mav, the Corsair at £40 is an absolute steal, especially for a top quality PSU like those.

For about £26 you can get a Thermaltake Power Express GPU PSU. I got one when I was unsure about my PSU and love it!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll be going for the Corsair PSU, either the 450W or the 520W model.

If you can afford the 520Watt then get that one as it will be better for upgrades in the future :). If you could do with saving a few quid then the 450watt one is still an excellent choice and has the power for some future upgrades of your system too.

if your not fussed with modular you can get a corsair 550w vs series psu now, not bad at all for 50 quids worth of capacitors and mosfets :)

When I got my card, I ran it on a generic 400w PSU with only 15a on the 12v rail, and I had 2 hard drives, and 2 optical drives as well. Never had a problem, although I'm much happier with my Enermax Noisetaker 620w PSU.
