Been living in Hedge End for a few months and the sunny evening today inspired me to find a beer garden and have a few pints. Only, after looking and Googling, I have been left highly uninspired, so have stayed in :(.

Does anyone know of any good pubs for either a good evening meal, or a good beer garden for a few drinks in the sun and some pub food? My nearest pub is the Shamblehurst Barn, which is a Hungry Horse with a tiny beer garden next to the road in the shade, so not the best :(

Cheers

Grew up in Southampton, but not really been that way bar when I was a kid and played football.

Are you near Botley? They have a few round there... or are you looking for walking distance? I cant really recall Hedge End, there used to be a Barleycorn or something like that there.....

I don't think there are any! Brushmakers Arms in Upham is my favourite in the general area but that's not really that close, certainly not walkable. I drive through Hedge End everyday on the way to work, RB 182, I'll keep an eye out for you!

Hedge End is a dump. Go into town and up to Portswood, there's a pub on the left just before Waitrose called the Gordon Arms. They do amazing burgers and the toilets are behind a secret door in the bookcase.

Swanwick has a decent pub called "The Talisman". If you can go that far. Train station is practically outside it.

Did the Itchen Way walk with a mate, we stopped off at a couple of places, sat in the garden and had lunch which was quite nice.

If you don't mind the walk from Eastleigh to Winchester you can find a few good pubs . The whole thing is 31 miles by the way.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA we have a comedian among us. My GF was a student in Southampton, I have spent many many nights out in Portswood. Hedge End is like Monte Carlo compared to Portswood!

Cow Heards is great, love the food their.

There is nothing in walking distance from me, that I know for sure.

In Hedge End village centre the Fountain is shut and the Barlycorn is.... badly reviewed. I have spotted a few in Botley, but haven't read the greatest reviews.

Thanks for that Itchen walk info, might look to do parts of that as a walk seperate.

The curry house in the main drag at Botley used to get good review afaik :)

Poor Hedge End ...if there was a decent pub it was pulled down a long time ago :(

I'm not much of a pub user these days, but I've been lead to believe The Milburys on the South Downs ridge north east of Upham and The Bat 'n' Ball just east of Hambledon are decent.

The White Swan just down the hill from West End is nice to sit by the river in the summer, as is the Toby Carvery in Bishopstoke.

The White Swan is much better than it used to be. Had a great breakfast there a few weeks ago, was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Shame the thread is 11 years old and will probably be locked though :p
