Good Quality Headphones with TV

Hi,

I recently got a new tv, a samsung 55hu7500, its a great tv and I intended on using it with headphones in the evenings to be kind to the neighbours/mrs I have Bose QC25s so think its worth finding a method for high quality output.

I have the tv currently connected with via optical cable to an LG SR906 surround system which unfortunately does not have a headphone socket.

I tried plugging in the headphones to the rear of the tv however the wall mount bracket is in a terrible position and once plugged in the audio output is locked to headphones only so plugging and unplugging every time is out of the question.

does anyone know of a system, ideally wireless, though not essential for overcoming this?

Easiest way would be to buy an extender for the socket so its in a easy to get to position you can plug into, would make it less of a bother to plug/unplug all the time and still leave the surround system operational while nothing is plugged into the extender.

Or you could go the other way and get a optical splitter/box (plenty online)

And then:

Optical cable from TV to input of the splitter
1 Optical cable from splitter into surround sound

Then another extension but female to female 3.5 like http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Female-Stereo-Coupler-Plug/dp/B003L151AY so you can plug your headphones into it.

More of a work around than anything else, but will work.

Hi,

Thanks but I tried this, unfortunately as soon as the extension is plugged in the tv outputs to headphones only, making it a pain to get the surround sound working.

Ah well, don't see why TV's do that, mine doesn't...
Only other option is the switch box I said above then really.
 
unfortunately that 3.5mm adapter does not convert from optical to analogue, its a good suggestion though and there will be optical to 3.5mm headphones available.

So would be

TV -> splitter -> surround
TV -> splitter -> digital to analog converter -> headphones

Its going to be ugly but would defiantly work.

doesn't need to be pretty as will be tucked behind in the wall void

I will order one of those and the cables and give it a go, the only thing I worry about is the strength of the signal when it reaches the surround sound (having gone through a splitter)

Yeah that's the only problem, as long as you use decent cables, shouldn't really be an issue.
And its digital anyway so shouldn't really have a signal loss for being split only 2 times.

Second thoughts it looks like my tv supports bluetooth headphones, perhaps I could get a host box for my QC25s?
 
That would work.
You would still need the digital to analog converter though and a blue tooth transmitter/receiver (as if you plug directly into the 3.5 port on TV it will mute sound still)

Lots of thers online everywhere so plenty of choices

So it would be

TV -> Splitter <- Surround
TV -> Splitter -> Converter <- Bluetooth Transmitter (then pair it to the dongle)

It would all depend if your headphones are compatable with the Bluetooth Transmitter though which I imagine will be abit hit and miss.
 
Hi, no it seems my tv has bluetooth built in, Ive ordered a bluetooth receiver for £3.99 and will try it, it has an analogue 3.5mm socket so should be able to plug my headphones straight in :)
