Good SIM Only plans?

Hi All,

My contract expires in a few months and I'm going to make the transition from a Pay monthly phone to SIM only and buying the phone separately.

I'm with T-Mobile (well, EE) now and while I've been pleased with them, the EE Sim only plans do not look great value for money wise...

Had a look at Three, they seem a lot better.

Any recommendations from anyone else? :)

Thanks
Jake

Im on three which Im enjoying no issues. What do you need minutes/data/texts wise?

Well I'm on the move quite a lot and while I have wifi at home and most of my friends houses/places I visit I don't like the idea of accidentally going over my data allowance and then all of a sudden I get a whopping great big bill :p :D

So unlimited data for certain.

Minutes and text I'm not entirely sure. I'm just looking at my phone to see if there is a minutes/text counter to see what my average each month has been.

Texts, I don't send a huge amount (I use whatsapp and Facebook messenger more than text) - minutes, probably 3-500 would be sufficient, with the top end being more overkill :)

I've heard a lot of bad things about giffgaff...shame as they're very cheap!

But I may have just explained why they're so cheap :p

I used to be a big advocate of Giffgaff but since I moved to Three I've noticed how much better it is, in both coverage and speed. My gf is still on Giffgaff and it seems to have worsened since.

Well I've figured out that I average around 90 minutes a month :)

Yeah there are LOTS of bad reviews of giffgaff...

Virgin Mobile

Starter Tariff
30-day contract 250 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB data £10 a month

can always set alerts on phone to stop you going over.

Im a bit shocked by that ... my wife and kids are on it and have been for over a year ... it's O2 so if your O2 coverage is good in your area it should be fine ??

Ah right.

Well O2 sucks at mine and it sucks at my girlfriends where I'm moving to shortly :p

then you need to work out who is good in the areas you will mainly be using it ...are 3 any good in those areas as they have some good sim only deal with unlimited data.

giffgaff has been giving me very poor speeds (under 1mb!) for the last month, but ever since they rolled out this Traffic Flow management I have recently seen better speeds (about 5mb now). But it's not back at normal levels yet, there still is a congestion problem.

I would say go with 3's One plan, it's probably the best at the moment, assuming you have good coverage in your area: http://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM?site=d

Alterntatively, if O2 offers better coverage in your area than 3, then perhaps look at either Tesco or giffgaff: http://shop.tescomobile.com/pay-monthly/sim-only

I suppose there's also Virgin who uses EE's network, but it seems to be more expensive if you're not a Virgin Media customer: http://store.virginmedia.com/virgin-media-mobile/pay-monthly/tariffs.html

O2's coverage has really gone down the pan, so I would steer clear of them/giffgaff. Also O2's customer service is known to be shocking, take a look at their facebook page, every time they try to promote an offer they get bombarded with comments from people complaining about the service.

Anyway I think your best bet will either be Three or EE. I've got the one plan on Three and i generally get very good signal with excellent speeds for H+ and 4G. I know they've recently changed all of their packages so you'd have to see what suits your needs.

Cracking link! Thats awesome!

Three coverage is very good for where I'm moving to. I think I've made my mind up :)

Thanks to all.

I'm in a similar boat to yourself and I'll be trying out 3 on their £15 per month PAYG tariff with unlimited 4G data. If I find the service is good after 2-3 months I may get a contract with them with a new handset - possibly the Note 4.

Almost forgot to mention, there's also 3 inTouch: http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI...cat=signal,varset_subcat=3804,Case=obj(13306)

Basically allows you to still call and text, even if you're not in an area with a 3 signal, but connected to a wifi network.

Although this is a bit weird...

Three inTouch is available to people with Android version 4.0 or above or iOS 6 or above on their phones, apart from the HTC Desire 500, HTC One M7, Samsung Mini S3, Sony Xperia J, Z, Z1 and Z2, iPhone 4, Galaxy Mega and Huawei Ascend P2.

When I tried to leave T-mobile and they gave me 1000 minutes, 3GB data and unlimited text for £10 on a 30 day rolling contract so you could always see what they offer you.
