i got some Koss PortaPro's today, but the onboard sound seems to not like them too much as theres a lot of hissing in the background etc, what is a good cheap soundcard for below £20? i was looking at the older soundblaster cards but im not sure if they would even be any better than the onboard job?

Audigy 2 ZS, but they don't seem to be available through retail anymore. Loads of them going cheap on ebay though.
Have you tried adjusting the wave and master volumes? You may be able to eliminate the hissing by turning master volume down and wave volume up. Also some times hissing can be part of the MP3 you are listenning to.
