roughly £800 budget what would people recommend? not really got a clue what a pc thats primary use is graphics editing needs? SSD's? lots of ram i'm gona say.

This is just for the box and OS, btw person i'm building this system already has a good monitor. (1600x1200 res)

afaik its raw processing power you want
RAM prob helps too but I think its the actual CPU thats important, so cos of that done an i7 spec, I wouldnt bother with SSDs, included 2 WD Caviar Blacks which can be put into RAID0 for speed increase. Only included 6 gig of RAM as I reckon it should be enough, though if you prefer could go for 12, drop case back a bit save £20, youve got £10 spare, it'd push you £50 over budget, or drop the 2nd HDD and dont use RAID, all in all I think 6 should be ok and gone for this spec, could always add another 6 later if needed

Thanks for the ideas. Only a couple of issues tho he needs the O/S too, and that mb can't take 12gb in 6 sticks since it only has 4 slots. at work right now but looks like a good start i'll mess about with it later, unless anyone else has the time now :)

Oh yeah, I did see about the OS but forgot, well he can use W7RC til it expires next year
And yeah dont know why I said that about RAM, swap board for the Asus P6T SE, same price but with 6 DIMMs, doesnt support SLI but shouldnt be an issue

I meant to hit buy on the Asus P6TSE board, obv hit one next to it by mistake, lol, its same price so just swap that one in

If they will be using Adobe CS4 i would swap the ATi card for an nVidia card, as the current models and some earlier ones can accerlate graphics work
