good starter camera for a ten year old?

hi all, my daughter is showing some interest in photography so i thought i'd buy her a little camera for xmas. Don't want to spend a fortune obviously, in case this is a flash in the pan. So a point and shoot that's easy to use but perhaps does enable some manual controls. A viewfinder would be nice but not essential i suppose.

anything spring to mind?

My daughter uses an old Nikon D50 of mine and I am wondering whether to get her the D3300 or a mirror less compact?

will look at the g16. Don't want to get dslr right now...maybe if she develops her skills i could look at that next year
