Good steam games?

Outlast for a bit of horror fun.

Arma 3 with the Dead Nation mod. (looking at getting my own server on the go for it)

Payday 2 is a fun game but can be frustrating at times with public games.

I'll have a go ... selecting a few favorites from my library with some less mainstream:

Simulations:

Rise of flight : WW1 flight combat sim
Assetto corsa : still in beta but already an awesome driving sim.
DCS world : The A10C DLC is an incredibly accurate study sim of the Warthog

Arcade racing games:

Sonic Allstars Racing Transformed - anyone who enjoys arcade racers should have this.
Blur - you still need a good system to run this imho despite its age
Burnout Paradise
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Dirt 2/3

Strategy:

XCOM Enemy unknown / within
Company of Heroes - the original version
Anno 2070
Dawn Of War 2
Shogun 2

General Casual games:

Pinball FX2 - incredibly fun pinball with a great community
Joe Danger & Joe Danger the movie

Fighting Games

Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition
Injustice Gods Among Us - a bit broken on-line but great for local play
Mortal Kombat Komplete - as above

3rd person:

Tomb Raider
Splinter Cell Conviction
Sleeping Dogs
Space Marine
Dead Space
Just Cause 2

Arcade Style

Gattling Gears - Twin stick shooter - fun with 2 players
Renegade Ops - As above
Pacman DX

Platform

Giana Sisters
Rayman Origins

FPS

Call of Juarez Gunslinger
Bullet Storm - Some people hate the humor - I though I would but it's ok
Battlefield Bad Company 2

I'm sure people will chip in with some more newer releases but you may get a lot of these really cheap in the Steam sales.

Wargame air land battle
Deadspace 1 and 2
State of decay
Crysis series
Totalwar series
Sins of the solar empire
Sniper elite series
Supreme commander forged alliance
Dishonored

+1 to Just cause 2, especially with the multiplayer mod being released for that tomorrow. On sale you can normally get it for something silly like £4 with all the DLC

Also +1 to prison architect, burnout paradise and dishonored

some others i will add are:

FTL: Faster than light
STALKER series (play them all with the 'complete' mod on your first playthrough)
Thief series (the first two feel a bit dated to me, but i really enjoyed deadly shadows)

As others have said, wait for christmas sale ( think it's meant to start on 19th? )
I think all of these games have been on sale for £5 or less (and probably will feature in xmas sale)

Portal
Portal2

Sleeping Dogs

Skyrim
Dragon Age Origins (not dragonage2)

Counterstrike Collection

Trine
Trine2
Giana Sisters

Mark of the Ninja

XCOM Enemy Unknown

Do you play STALKER with mouse and keyboard or do you have XPADDER or something?

Its an FPS, who wouldnt use mouse/kb?

Get Papers Please, just make sure your GPU up to spec.

:D

Seriously though, its a fantastic game. It does the whole 'your actions control the story' thing amazingly well. Nerdcubed rated it as his game of the year, and I'm pretty sure that he said that it was a perfect game (a title that he has previously only given to portal and one other, possibly shadow of the colossus, not sure
