Ive been using these cheap 'Rio' headphones for a long time now as they came free with an old mp3 player, so i want a pair that sound decent and are comfortable.
I don't want any of them 5.1 headphones as ive read nothing but bad things about em. Price limit is £50, and im using an X-fi Xtreme Music soundcard.

Any suggestions? :)

Koss Porta Pro.
Sennheiser PX100.

Both quality sub £50 headphones. The Koss is more to my taste, but it does depend on your taste and music.

Actually, if a low price doesn't put you off (the irony that it sometime does), and don't mind clip ons, then the Koss KSC-75 offers the best value (it's very similar to the Porta Pro, but not inherently infererior, only different).

To get something significantly better, you need to go above the £50 mark.

Koss Porta Pro, I can't praise these headphones enough, I,ve been in love with these headphones for nearly 10 years now, I still haven't found NOTHING that have came close to the wow facter that these babies gave me when I first put them on and trust me, I,ve been chasing it ever since, don't judge these headphones by thier price tag.

"I have to say these are the best headphones you can find anywhere. The first time i tried them out i was blown away by the sound quality, i've never had a set of headphones portable or otherwise that sounds better, the quality of the bass is unreal"

"The PortaPros are indeed an amazing headphone. The bass is fantastic. They outperform many much higher priced hi-fi headphones"

"I've owned Koss' PortaPro headphones for 20 years. They are far and away the best sounding lightweight headphones I've ever found"

"The best-sounding portable headphones i've ever owned, period. simply powerful, deep, clear, intense bass, clear highs, and fantastically accurate midrange"

"I am very crucial about bass in headphones as so many claim to have "great bass" yet fall short. The Porta Pro's get straight A's in this category, out performing the high dollar jobs"

"These headphones are amazing. They are lightweight and very comfortable. If you were to simply listen with them, without knowing the price, you would believe the sound was coming from a pair of very expensive headphones"

I know that the HD5xx series are well regarded. But on Head-fi.org (I would reommend that you take a look there), the PX100 is typically mentioned more often than the HD4xx series.

But I have to agree with with lowrider that the Porta Pro are excellent cans to get into the headphone world. Mine are honestly gathering dust.. there are better (in the form of the Grados), but they are safe starter cans: they don't cost much, they come with life guarantee.

My choice is between the PX100, the HD 4xx or the koss porta pro. Any more comments? :)

Dude, get the porta pro's, go on :p , they really are nice, they have a nice open sound thats smooth and bass that makes you feel like your in a night club, really great for music and games sounds effects, the only negative thing I can say about these headphones is that I've met a lot of people that don't like the style of them, personaly I like the retro style and the extra foam pads that rest just above your ears really make them extra comfy.

I own the PX100's as well, they do sound nice, in fact i'd go so far as to say that they are a tad better sounding on the mids but the stereo field is not as wide as it is the the koss porta pros and the bass in no way compares.

Well anyway i went for the Sennheiser HD 465's, which i found for £38 delivered, all i can say is WOW! :D
They are so powerful! My music never sounded so good through headphones before! And so comfortable.
I highly reccommend these headphones to anyone who wants some thumping bass when listening to music, without waking up the neighbors :p and apart from the bass, they have fantastic sound quality aswell.
