Good Story Lines? (No multiplayer)

Both Max Payne games.

All old now, so don't expect much in the gfx dept. But great gameplay and the stories are brilliant.

And yes, if you can get past the bugs and the fact the early weapons are (deliberately) pants, then the STALKER games are superb.
 
Another vote for The Witcher from me! Started playing it again now I got the enhanced edition and am about 16 hours in so far, the story line is great and I'm probably only about a third of the way through! :)

Some others that are good.. Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Half-Life series.
 
Neverwinter nights 2 had the most useless, predictable, cliche'd story I've ever seen. Hard to believe it came from the same people as Baldur's Gate. The original NWN1 campaign wasn't much better, although some of the expansions were quite good.
 
Planescape Torment is the King, and Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR and the first Max Payne are also good, but I'm surprised nobody mentioned Bloodlines! It's the only one that comes close to Torment in terms of characters and writing, and even beats it in terms of atmosphere and immersion.

Mask of the Betrayer was much better than the original campaign.
 
The brothers in Arms game have always been strong on story, Hells Highway i thought was superb.

Other games which i thought had a good story

Fahrenheit, Mass Effect, Vampire The Masquerade, Deus Ex, (Alone in the dark newer version), The Witcher

It didn't NWN2 is made by Obsidian the guys who did KOTOR 2 :)

Theres a second expansion pack coing out soon as well!

You're completely correct, best game ever :)

Try the new Brothers in Arms, it has a very touching story and is really a quite cool game once you get over the inital anger aimed at the controls.

NWN's expansions have had much better stories than the vanilla games, HOTU was much better than NWN 1 and so was Mask of The Betrayer compared to NWN 2, i'm really looking forward to the next expansion.
 
devil may 4 storyline and the game itself is very good, definetly worth a look at it, and is probably an enjoyable gameplay style you have not played much before on PC :)
 
Half life series, all of them, even blue shift opposing force etc...
All have a great story. HL2 too of course.


I find Bioshock very very cool, the scripted bits. It's not a ''great shooter'', but the feeel you have in it, the environment, and the story make a real special and awesome game... It looks very pretty too with eye candy maxed and AA forced on...

You've played most other superb games...

What was it you didn't like about bioshock demo ? The game is filled with nice semi creepy bits like when you exit the capsule at start, or the nice old style music etc... It has very very very cool cinematics later on too. I would go as far tbh that the cinematic/scripted bits in bioshock are far cooler than HL2 scripted bits...

Devil may cry 4 has a good story imo, but it's a pretty basic hack and slash game best played on a joypad, if you li3ek console ish games then get this...

And as someone mentioned:

Mafia has such an awesome story, looks dated these days perhaps but very playable and well, you had to have played it tbh...

Have you played/tryed the GTA series?
If not, then really get vice city then san andreas... They're very cheap now but still have superb story/missions...

I personally prefer SA but most people like the story of VC more, which is awesome too...
